Yorkville Sound is a Canadian manufacturer of professional audio equipment, founded in 1963 in the back room of Long & McQuade, a music store on Yonge Street in Toronto. Peter Traynor, the store's repairman, began building rugged bass amplifiers using readily available components, developing the "Dynabass" amp that could withstand the punishment of touring. The company was incorporated as Yorkville Sound Limited in 1965 and eventually moved its manufacturing operations to Pickering, Ontario, where it designs and builds its products.
Yorkville produces a full range of professional sound reinforcement equipment, including powered and passive loudspeakers, subwoofers, power amplifiers, mixers, and stage lighting. Their speaker lines span from large-venue systems like the Parasource, Paraline, and Unity series — the latter designed by noted loudspeaker engineer Tom Danley — to portable solutions in the NX, YXL, and EXM series aimed at smaller venues and mobile performers. The company also manufactures studio monitors and distributed-line ceiling/wall speakers for commercial installations.
Beyond the Yorkville brand, the company manages several other product lines, including Traynor amplifiers (the brand that started it all), Apex microphones, and ART (Applied Research and Technology) signal processors. Yorkville also serves as the North American distributor for HK Audio, Hughes & Kettner guitar amplifiers, and Aston Microphones.
Yorkville has 76 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Speakers & Accessories, Subwoofers & Accessories, and Active & Passive Monitors. Their gear is featured by 2 artists, with the strongest followings in Rock, Electronic, and Pop. Notable users include Jack Conte and Cody Chandler.
