it's as fun as it sounds

Nice smooth fuzz, never too spitty. I use it as an alternative to overdrive when I want a little bit of fuzziness instead of crunchiness. Pairs well with overdrive as well.

nice and versatile

This pedal does such wonderful things. Very flexible, it pairs well with fuzz and the active bass and treble really allow it to work with a variety of things.

the sound in my head

The RE-20 is a very inspiring pedal. Most days I have the reverb set to minimum, the bass turned up to 3 and the treble turned down to 9 with the intensity just up to where it almost wants to self-oscillate and then play. I can turn the mode and play a chord and listen and then just go off on a new idea. Turn the mode again and it's another idea. It is the darkness you can get out of the repeats and the momentary switch gives the all the UFO effects you may want. Go the other way with it and turn the intensity down and the repeat rate up a bit and it gives a great retro slapback sound.

Apologies for the terrible playing, but nothing says what it sounds like better than just listening to it.

Not overly fancy as some, but it sounds great, has presets and some interesting options to get a variety of sounds.

Fantastic

When someone says practice amp, this is what I suggest now. It just sounds good with good battery life and a solid build quality for not a lot of money. For me, it works with both humbucker and filter-tron pickups and it works everywhere at volume levels that lets the kids sleep and me practice. Sunroom, front porch, across the street giving lessons on another front step, living room, kitchen table.

Some might quibble with the ISF control over a Treble/Mid/Bass EQ, but I've found dialing to one side for humbuckers and the other side for filter-trons is all the control I actually need in a practice amp and leaves me not fiddling with the controls, but just playing. The delay is excellent for giving a nice reverb-ish feel at lower settings, all the way to a few repeats when desired.

My only ask for this would be to include the power supply with it instead of as an extra cost, but then I love having the freedom to just pick it up and move where it is quieter in a house with three kids.

I like when things just work and this does.

single pedal pedalboard? maybe

The tape saturation side is so satisfying, almost an always on kind of thing. Just works so well with so much. Tape flange is excellent. Slapback is great. It is the sound from the past that is stuck in my head. Worth the cost and I'm not even touching the stereo options and most of the secondary functions of the controls.

does so much

This thing is brilliant. Ghostly, washy, slapbacky, warbly. Pair it with a long delay behind or even a second reverb pedal. Just so much it does. Hard to find any turn of the dial that doesn't lend itself to something. If I could only had one pedal this would be it.

great look, reasonable sounds

I've always liked the VOX grill cloth look.

It’s a 20 watt modelling amplifier which is a great starting point for almost anyone outside of someone wanting to play metal or really heavy rock or if you need a good practice amplifier for the time without the band. The other usual suspects now would be the BOSS Katana, the Fender Mustang and the Peavey Vyper.

After getting back into guitar, I wanted an actual amplifier to plug into. This worked perfectly. It can be option paralysis a bit and the Tone Room can certainly waste some time, but once you get past the presets you will probably find a few models that work for you and then you’ve got some limited effects to keep you inspired. Lots of user preset slots for your own fiddling and for the first couple of months it did that kind of thing for me: presets. Then I started using the pedals I had again and found that setting it to the Tweed model and turning the master volume up all the way and the volume to suit and using the gain control as the volume control it actually works pretty well with pedals as just an amplifier with the usual 3-band EQ and gain control. It is no tube amplifier, but then it’s got a headphone jack that works pretty well and can allow me to play at volumes suitable for the family.

still working this one out

I bought this after watching the Anderton's blindfold octavia pedal shootout. I still love that episode. I plugged this pedal in and I didn't fall in love with it. It was weakish (to my ears) and hard to sound right. But I learned. Learned more about fuzz and more about the original octavia effect and I've grown to like this pedal a lot. I use it with an SD-1 into it sometimes to smooth it out a little, or with the SD-1 off and it gets all spitty and untamed. Turn on a bit of tremolo behind or a bit of chorus/vibe and it gets a different feel. It is reactive to what is going on in the signal chain and I like that despite it being hard to dial in some days. Get it to that spot though and it's great. The switch is loud, but how it reacts to everything makes me want to get another EHX pedal. But you'll have to turn the knobs a lot and fight with it and turn it off and change the pedal order and then change it back again, but that spot is there and then there's quite a bit of give in the knobs and a lot of inspiration in the playing.

I always think I can get rid of this, but I can't

This pedal has supported a couple of uses for me. The first was to replace a Fender Blues Deluxe amplifier which was just too loud. So I used it to plug directly into a workstation keyboard to either use the headphones on it or the monitor speakers. It is a reactive to your playing amp in a pedal. Love it a lot. I thought I would get rid of it, but now it sits so well at the end of the chain going into a modelling amplifier to make it work with pedals.

works like it should

A staple of many this does what it needs to do for me, adding a bit extra and smoothing out an octavia pedal or working on its own.

Hard to beat the price tag for something that works this well with so much. It can get fizzy, sure it can, but keeping the drive down it works well.

A dreamy pedal. I'll say that it could use a bit more on reverb side, but the delay side and how it works with the reverb provided is very good. It is just a good sounding piece of equipment that is difficult to make anything bad come out of it.

Mine lives with the feedback around 9 o'clock, the delay around 9 o'clock, tone around 10 o'clock, the mode set to dotted eighth note, the delay mix around noon and the reverb set off. I'll occassionally add more by turning the feedback up and then adding a smidge to the reverb.

This pedal could really use a bit more variability to the reverb effect, but it is hard to fault what is a really good sounding pedal. Maybe not the most versatile (the delay is great, the reverb a little less so) dual delay-reverb combination pedal. I don't think it will replace a dedicated reverb pedal, but it can do a lot of delay for you. No tap tempo though.

nice, very nice

Probably 4.5 stars. A great pedal. The lag which lets you set the how far apart the waves are and the D-C-V (dry - chorus - vibrator) control are what separate this from other choruses. It lets you dial in things that are strictly chorus or strictly vibe, but there's that whole continuum between the two where the magic lives. Really good to deepen up the sound when you set the lag at a low level and the D-C-V just a bit more into the V than the C. I can't say enough about how well this pedal works.

The lights are blinding bright though so tape over them if needed.
