I am looking forward to hearing where this one goes... and then mangling it in a remix....

Best small, low-watt tube amps. How'd we do?
you left out a number of infinitely better-made and better-sounding cheapies than the Bugera V5 (which is a dead lift of the ac4TV circuit with inferior components)....
value for dollar? what about the VHT 5 watt champ style head? Jet city pico valve? marshall class 5 or DSL5?
also, define small? the Blues Junior is way louder in practice than any other amp on the list including the comparably rated micro terror pushing the same amount of air as a deluxe reverb, ac15 with a celestion blue, marshall 18 watt, etc... definitely a mid-sized amp, though a compact one... I don't think fender has a budget small tube amp anymore (though they used to have that champion600)

I ditched the piano, just couldn't get it happenin'.... still working on the track. I'll email you the finished mix with no dynamic processing on the mix bus

yeah, the big forums with paid memberships really are a value based soley on what you save when purchasing through the classifieds.

I am having so much fun remixing your track today! Can I remix another one of your tunes if you like what I did with this one? I forgot how much fun this is! And your stuff has great core material to work with...

Hey Whorse, wat'd you use to make your piano sound? It has a really nasty, artificial quality that is growing on me and I think I am going to create some loops from that track to add in...
but I have a piano one-line lick in one section mirroring the FM synth line without the portamento and I would like to make the piano part match your sound.... is it Nexus maybe?

maybe my spam box caught it... but yeah, we'll make the transaction next week dude, I am not in THAT big a rush.... I don't want to overcharge you for shipping by guessing... I will get her weighed in over the weekend and charge the actual cost. I can send you a paypal invoice on Monday and I'll ship it when the funds clear.

lemmee know when you are ready to pay me so I can pay off the Pro... my buddy just bought a d'angelico EXL-something-something to learn jazz on and he could really use the money I think
I'll box the AC4 this weekend and get a general shipping quote to LA

Not that Richard James' stuff has as much front to back space as some other electronic artists... but, anyway
whatever
I was just grumpy from having to read the same 5 page book to my son over and over for what seemed like an eternity (but was likely just an hour or two)... and also because, like an idiot I opened this remix I'm doing for Whorse while Lucian was awake and he grabbed the mouse and keyboard... and something is wrong with my backup file now.... tons of work mangled

I'm not going to apologize on this one because if it doesn't sound painfully wrong the you need a doctor appointment
the terminology is a lesson, your ears should get it immediately with or without terminology
being untutored is one thing, contemptible, but whatever... I guess I'll hand out knowledge I acquired through years of study and careful experiment to folks who lack my inquisitive, intuitive and deductive nature
listening with your eyes is another

you are deaf... listen with your EARS, not your teenaged insecurity
though stereo represents a binaural source, every recording with a comlex interaction of instruments (even playing Gregorian unison) will represent front to back as well as left to right space... if it desn't? it has failed (unless everyone was standing in a 5 meter line)... in artificial music this must be simulated, but in many instances the 'producer' fails to establish a sense of space and just leans on the 'ol digital verb...the track you posted has gobs of ambiance but no front to back depth, it feels ike everyone stood in a line, played into a DI or mic, and got varying amounts of lexicon reverb applied at the sends of the console...
your ears are not rejecting it because its synthesizers, they are rejecting it because it is artificially 2 dimensional

I guess you have defective ears.... which I have suspected from your guitar/bass BS

I may be showing my age, but there's a really great Aphex Twin track on the PI soundtrack that's uncredited. Clint Mansell did a great job curating an eclectic but appropriate techno soundscape for that film....
I seriously think this that track is James' best work. And yes, everyone knowsits an aphex twin track now, but at the time I saw the film at the Ritz during its first run (with my friends Steve and Red Shawn.... whatever happened to you 2 rivet-head motherfuckers anyway?) it was mysterious!

that's just a seatophone... a vintage American standard commodophone is way bigger and has more pipes that go over your shoulder

I don't think gretsch made a cheap guitar that looked like a Tennessean/Tennessee-rose until these blocked ones came out recently... there were cheap double-cut hollowbodies but not with proper filtertron pickups

Adding more guitars to an artist when not sure of the guitar model
Moderators, we're here to help. Unlike on other sites.

looks like one of the recent, center-blocked Gretsch Electromatic thinlines with double cutaways
I wonder if James Bay is related to Mel bay.... who didn't have a Mel Bay guitar method book as a kid?!

Drum Machine through guitar amp?
Depeche mode is still well known to reamp synths, samplers and drum machines through tube guitar amplifiers to get some of their signature sounds in the mix.... it can be really cool
I made heavy use of my old Traynor tube PA head (has a pretty wide-range, key friendly voicing and breaks up really easily when hit with a hot signal) and a 2x12 with low efficiency 80s celestion guitar drivers in your remix already re-recording some loops of from your tracks prior to any plugin procession and have used some amp simulator plugins as well to distort and shape the one shot samples I created, particularly from your bass synth

oh thanks!
So I was mostly hearing it, Em, E9 implied minor 3rd, Esus, Cmaj7, Bm7 G, B11, B1/2dim, Cmaj7, Esus.... its not important because I decide not to use the whole progression sicne the changes as it goes on are less harmonic than broad rhythmic strokes that were messing with my drum programming ideas.... there's a chunk that's critical to me though because I am thinking of adding a strummy acoustic guitar line just to get interesting
I use FL all different ways but it has finally replaced Cubase in my world for master MIDI and large audio tracks. I actually decided to configure FL almost entirely as a giant sampler for this project... so far I have 1 MIDI channel for a plugin synth line I added last night, everything else is short samples and loops... sadly I couldn't do what I was trying to do melodically and rhythmically with the existing audio I got from you, but otherwise I've stuck with your tracks apart from this one synth part and the drums, which are built up from some of my own stuff... mainly a 16 bar patch of funk from my old rock band's outtakes

before adding please post the pics here and see if the community can help you get it right or at least come to a consensus on what it probably is

Drum Machine through guitar amp?
welp, either way, guitar amps are not designed for a low Z signal nor are they voiced for full range material, but ool results may be had.... yes the kick drum could be hard on your speakers, no it will not run your tubes down, especially not in a cathode biased amp.... the bias scheme in your laney runs the tubes plenty ahrd even with no signal coming in at 'idle', there's barely a difference in tube wear regardless of whatis or isn't being played through the circuit (preamp tubes are always biased in this basic way and run all on, all the time).... your speaker is another story. Every guitar speaker handles big bass transients differently and if you intend to blast it loud you may damage your speaker.... or not. tough to say.... is the speaker rated for at least twice the RMS wattage of the amp?

It takes 5 minutes to be rude to you from my desk at work, even in multi-paragraph form.... and get paid to do it. I spend a lot of time on hold with insurers and physicians at work trying to get prior authorizations for increased HHA and SN care to help out the families of chronically ill children. I have hours of time tied to my desk trying to entertain myself on the web, waiting for my turn to get a polite no or be blown off by a lazy RN who can't be bothered to open a medical chart and fax some test results. It takes a little longer to post from my phone in othersituations, but not much as I am finally getting good at touchscreens. Its also much less tiring to post to a forum than crawl through a hot attic looking for a tiny piece of yellow plastic. You are being intentionally obtuse just like when I said something like 'possibly in 2 weeks, but my priority then will be making music with my friend (which is what I did Saturday, thanks for asking)' and you said "okay, so in 2 weeks then." But whatever, I'll make this brief:
So you admit to joining our wonderful gear site just to get your hands on my memorabilia? Well, forget it.
I am so sorry I told that other kid I had these picks and I have been ever since he asked me to send him a couple. I have been pestered by more people than you 2 because I was foolish enough to put give other guy my email address.... now before I forget I need to delete that reply I made to him so I don't get anymore people begging me for picks.

Drum Machine through guitar amp?
eh, you can probably do it.... why not just use your solidstate beginner amp

I just put my 2 year-old to bed. Yes, I am a single dad. I have very limited free time that doesn't involve the boy and despite the fact that I really oughta clean the motherfucker out, I don't want to spend ANY of my time rooting around my un-ventilated attic in the hottest, most humid weather Philadelphia has seen in years.... particularly for a couple of strangers who haven't even told me what they will pay for the damn picks.
In fact, I am feeling kinda pissy about your pestering and suspicious of your intentions, so when I do get around to going in my attic and turn up those picks while cleaning up.... you aren't getting one. Other dude can have some, but I won't sell them to you at any price, clockwatcher. Why don't you go make so memories of your own, but before you start why don't you....

also, were you buckley memorabilia searching on goggle when you came across this thread and only then joined equipboard solely to hit me up for my stuff? Don't answer, I know you did or you woulda contributed to the site or at least your profile by now. Shame on you. Be glad I'm not your dad. Now get off our website unless you plan on making a contribution!

oh, its an RI, but his original one was 60s, I remember him talking about it in Vintage Guitar magazine many years ago

do you use fruityloops? If so, what version are you using?
I actually had something screwey happen with my FL file for the remix and it won't open all of the sudden, but I only have FL on one machine so I can't see if it'll open on another computer
every time I try to reopen the remix the fruity loader freezes, not sure whats up
EDIT: I managed to get the file to open and debug her in FL10 on a shitty laptop, then scoot her back over to the music machine and I am back at it. I need to print some of the non-automated channel effects on these samples....
