Knowledgeable Acustic Guitarists Here Please
For 5 seconds. I scored some of his yellow dunlop guitar picks with his signature and that crazy face logo from the tour printed on them which I still have in my tub of picks... at least I recall them being tortexes of some sort, its been awhile since I looked at them. I'll break them out when a Buckley fan comes over to jam.

Anaheim NAMM is really fun to attend. You should make a point of going when you're a little older. But no, you don't wish you lived in Anaheim, t sucks there because of Disney Land.... but if you live pretty much anywhere in Souther California (or are visiting in the winter) its well worth getting a ticket to the NAMM show. Always fun. Summer NAMM in Nashville is also fun, but its not loaded with as many famous musicians. And it seems like the manufacturers save their best stuff for new year...
I can't stand the online video coverage... its like a giant run of ads with bad sound quality. At the show its hard enough to hear what you're trying, the videos are the pits. I should make a point of going to summer NAMM this year. Nashville is not THAT far from me...
I'm actually kinda excited about this Helix thing that Line6 put out to compete with axeFX and the Kemper.... I am very interested in the way you can integrate it in all sorts of cool ways with your actual tube amps. Its kinda expensive for a Line6 product though.... Pete Thorn's demo piqued my interest in this thing. I am sure the sound quality is adequate for the FX models at least, but the i/o flexibility from an all in 1 pre/post FX system, amp sim and cabinet Impulse host is really impressive. Even if the models aren't up to Fractal or Kemper's stuff? Hell, they are not designed well to integrate with an analog setup.... I've been flirting with buying a G-System for looping different amps and having a bank of effects when I need them, but apart from the cost of helix it seems to offer a much wider effects palette plus the option of running your amp direct into an impulse response of your favorite cab for low volume home recording. Ad unlike the G System it has distortion and amp models that sound okay when you just want a close-enough solution. I was kinda thinking of putting my ac4 on a loadbox, turning it way up and putting it in a helix loop for drive, then putting the pres from my HC30 in 2 more loops for cleaner stuff and pumping the output of whatever effects unit into the effects return of the HC30 to use the nice Matchless poweramp. NAMM show is great in person to decide if its worth investing in the new gadget with all the bells and whistles like Helix or if you wanna go half the price with the tried-and-true device on the used market. I mean, I probably won't hardly use the amp models and for recording I could do cabinet impulses in my PC, but there are a lot more delay and modulation models in Helix than G-System. Seems easier to find the exact sound you want without compromise. Or not. Tough to know without trying it extensively at the Line6 booth... I shoulda gone to 2015 summer NAMM and tried her!

Complaints, Concerns, Errors, Suggestions, and Ideas!
tube or solid state rectified, etc... but then there are amps like the triple rec that the answer to the checkboxes would be "all of the above" because mesa just kitchen-sinked that whole sumbitch.

pedal guys, have you seen BYOC's programmable looper?
who doesn't make an 18 watt kit? but apparently BYOC's amps come with really good isntructions for 1st timers. My buddy built their tweed royale kit when it 1st came out and said the instructions looked excellent even though he didn't need them. I actually eally like the 20 watt a lot too. Usually I would say I am all about tube rectifiers over diode-bridges, but In the case of the little marshall amps I like the 18 watt to record and the 20 watt on stage. The extra punch is a good thing playing live. The 20 watt REALLY cuts the mix.

pedal guys, have you seen BYOC's programmable looper?
I don't have all day here to explain how MIDI controls relays via simple program change data across a given channel LOL... I dunno, I am sure joyo's simple stuff like knockoff OD pedals? fine, but I don't trust a knockoff midi device nor do I trust a device with that many relays and jacks.... BYOC is "Build Your Own Clone", I have built one of their kits, they do NOT fuck around.

I've hears this is common in Indonesia, is this true and if its ISIS like the UK media claim then why attack a predominantly muslim country, makes no sense though, they ain't the most clever people around.
I don't really understand why a predominantly Iraqi insurgent movement would go abroad to attack any country that wasn't occupying Iraq.... its a waste of manpower and resources that, even if successful, is only likely to turn world opinion further against your organization. I don't think that these ISIS folks are that dumb. They wouldn't still be pestering my country's army of occupation so effectively if they had that little military sense and political acumen.

pedal guys, have you seen BYOC's programmable looper?
except the joyo stuff is junk Chinese components.... I considered buying one of those joyo loopers but I was afraid it would break at a gig... then I sold all my pedals....
if you're not afraid to solder I can guarantee you the BYOC is a better choice though its not a true midi control device

I don't even use a lot of pedals and I am thinking of ordering one of these programmable 8 loop effects selector kits to build...

wait... Manga? Anime? nah dude. I have sworn off all Japanese comics, cartoons and music (other than Melt Banana). They need to stop stealing and mocking distinctly American art forms while selling it back to our hipsters. And stop buying up all our vintage guitars and amps and shipping them to Tokyo. God that pisses me off. At this point there are amazing MIJ axes that are genuinely vintage. I own 3 of them. They have their own guitars, lay off our 50s and 60s guitars Japan!
I think Manga/Anime was done for me after everyone decided it was cool to like Ghost in the Shell and all the sudden people who never read comics were watching the film version of Akira and talking about how cool Japanese comics are even though they ignored them completely in the 80s....

food for thought.... listen carefully to Ricky Martin's "livin la vida loca" some time and tell me if you think it woulda been such a big hit without Rusty Anderson's ES335 and (I assume) Laney Supergroup.

I was raised on Tap and Blues Brothers.... but The Commitments is arguably the best movie about being in a hard working band that's ever been made. LOVE IT, Commitments is funny because its so true to the life of a working musician with big dreams. And the Irish have a really sick sense of humor to boot that infuses the whole film.
I'm trolling the forum right now while my boy snuggles on my lap. He got his 2 month booster shots today and is feeling pitiful. I'll be allover this thread!

to be honest, I can't imagine I'll have cause to visit the east in the future on business and I couldn't afford to on vacation. Airfare is expensive, man. And a cheap, kid friendly trip to Disney World leaves more guitar budget. I'm not sure my toddler's ready for Indonesia on vacation.

he just made that great movie about the gardens of Versailles too.... damn! not another talented corpse! What a bad winter.

yeah man, don't go out without your helmet and flack jacket.... but seriously, is this sort of thing normal in Indonesia? we don't hear about your country a lot in the American media so I always assumed it was fairly peaceful like Singapore and Thailand. Good luck.

Knowledgeable Acustic Guitarists Here Please
yeah, its an L1, Tyohars got it in 5 seconds... buckley didn't have a lot of acoustics. When I saw him in the 90s he was playing a guild, a silverface twin reverb and a tele with no backups in site....

even guys who are not terribly effects driven contribute a lot with guitar choice, amp timbre and playing style. Even a buried rhythm line can propel a pop tune if its played with a more rock aesthetic or add to the dance-ability if there's more of a disco feel. Guitar is massively powerful in pop music, especially when a lot of the arrangement is programmed or samples.

I know the guy who plays for Taylor swift endorses bad cat amps, which are, on the whole, a lot like Matchless. I've used their hot cat and wild cat amps, they are great.
I am sure if you look up the names of these sidemen on google you will be able to find their websites where they will likely reveal their gear recipes in detail. If their homepages don't have the info then you could search premier guitar's rig rundowns. They cover a lot of pop/rock sidemen. Theye ven did the guys from all the late night TV bands. A lot of these working musician guys have pretty banal gear. They go for reliability and replicability. A 1 off boutique delay is a fine thing in the studio, but if it breaks on the road you won't be able to replace it before showtime at GC!

1 and 2 sound bad-assed... if my grandmother had heard that my parents fed me a sandwich left out in the sun during a trip to visit her she woulda killed my mother and at least maimed my dad.... we did not risk food poisoning in my family. Then again, I never had velveeta or cheesewhiz until I had my 1st philly cheese steak and my mom was at great pains to point out that Kraft cheese in a jar is not actually cheese nor is it actually food. She was also warned me about fast food too, even though she let me eat it once in a while.... she was right about everything. And spam? Something you kept in the bomb shelter in case of nuclear holocaust. Even then you might prefer death to eating a spamburger...

John Petrucci - He's Going To Kill You
he's 2... he's only been 2 for a couple weeks too... little Einstein is a bit annoying for adults, but its got a lot of decent educational material presented at toddler speed. If he met a little Einstein kid face to face Lu still might kick the kid's ass. Don't worry. My son's a good natured bad-ass.
That said, he can count to 20 already, knows the whole alphabet, has more than justthe basic 8 colors down pat... and annoying educational programs reinforce everything I do with him one on one even when he's tuckered and just wants to veg out. I assume you were mainly joking, but if not, when you're a dad you will get it and you will appreciate everything your folks put up with to make sure you were ready for school.

no, I was calling their playing "wanking" in the parlance of your country....
I can't watch the humorous videos yet, Lucian is on my lap watching Baby Einstein.

I guess Portnoy is a proficient drummer. A lot of your other claims are pretty bold. They are all very proficient, but there is more to 'good' to me then extreme proficiency. I would say they make masterpieces of intermittent clutter. I'm not telling you not to like it, but I just can't get through more than 1 song of dream theater. I also don't like watching 4 grown men masturbate in public. Its gross and its not art to me no matter how fast they can get off. Maybe I would be more into it if I played more AD&D as a teenager. I had a different aesthetic as a young, aspiring rocker. When Friday night involved a dungeon master, role play and a basement it was a usually at a supposedly adults only club during a weekend where I wasn't playing a gig. It was not my mom's basement, a bong and some 8 sided dice.
That said all of the members seem like witty, intelligent people who I would gladly hang out with as long as I didn't have to listen to their discography while doing it.... or play dungeons and dragons with them while listening to rush albums and debating the merits of the cymbal intro to XYU
I wish the whole guitar hero thing would die already. It encourages a lot of BS attitudes including my own which can be quite reactionary because I am so sick of this shredder nonsense that I run my mouth excessively at young guys.

Actually my friend and I thought it could be a publicity stunt Monday morning but decided collectively that David Bowie stopped that kinda stuff back in the late 70s so hes probably dead.

John Petrucci - He's Going To Kill You
because I don't care for dream theater. Never have. They were the band that caused me to give up on prog rock and metal as a kid. All my metal friends were getting into them nad I was like "enough is enough already, this music is less appealing than Rush! how can a group of amazingly proficient musicians write music that makes me feel literally NOTHING?"
its like listening to satriani or vai. Great guys, I am impressed. Cool. Next?
to each his own though... I don't get it though.

nah, I get it.... Bowie influenced everybody, even if its just in the sense that an artist says, "ugh, I hate Fame and I am never going to turn my back on rock fordisco masquerading as white funk!!!" LOL
Look at Lady Gaga. She's super Bowie influenced in presentation with some Madonna thrown in too...
