The Shred-Guitar King Has Died
Great musician gone. Still processing. This year has been nothing but death from the start, when we lost Neil Peart--with no one to play the Drum Solo of Life, though, what did we expect?
YEAR? Its been nonstop chaos since Bowie passed back into outer space...

my linear video editing days last millennia!
you have any footage laying around I could use to sharpen my scoring? I want to use the pandemic to get a reel together but its impossible to get anything interesting to work with.

to be fair, the limitations of the little thing are probably helpful... my gear collection really exploded the last year and I haven't actually finished more than 1 piece, I get bogged down or lose interest because I'm distracted by new toys

I'm often worried that teenage engineering is a weird cult and I'll never be able to give their products an objective review once the brainwashing takes hold...

incidentally, alethea's microphone in your submissions looks like a beyerdynamic, probably a hypercard model.

I reckon if you have all the pro grade components already Jim then you'd most likely find the OP-1 makes a very classy paper weight.
then again, Jarre has more stuff than I do and likes it so.... I keep going back and forth

I keep thinking about getting one but I haven't really figured out what role it will fill since everything it does I can already do... and its not exactly cheap

though he didn't really invent potting pickups or the wet/dry/wet rig or tapping... we shall never see his like again!

it has both the SSM and CEM filters and a knob for tuning stability control.... I dunno. I'll probably buy one though LOL

Help upgrading my Fender Stratocaster Player Series
Buy a Scalloped Neck (Fretboard with wood shelled out between the Frets so that the string only touches the Fret and no wood).
Thanks Yngwie LOL

for pickups if you want CLASSIC tones at a good price contact my friend Ken at Angeltone pickups
one of my strats is heavily modded with brian may wiring, a straight bridge pickup, custom everything, but you don't have to go that far over the top. Frankly I haven't even changed more than the bridge on my robert cray, sounds fine

everyone seen this?

Alright everyone, we just launched a redesigned homepage IF you're logged in.
So the biggest things we tried to do was 1) make it viewable on all screen sizes and 2) show more activity by expanding actions by default so they are easier to see.
Please take a look and let us know what you think and what revisions would help you browse or reply or moderate the site.
more info seems good but it takes a lot longer to weed through and it wasn't fast before... although i just responded to a pete townshend submission pretty fast so hmmm

you finally bit the bullet on the carbon copy.... a bold maneuver towards the old school. I take it the JHS is a clone of the cheeseball?

Wim Walker has announced about his new single 'Why So Serious'
dude, just finish your work, post it wherever you're going to post it and then create a thread here and ask people to check it out in the 1st person... its not going to generate that much interest but that's modern music. Several of us will check it out and give you feedback. There are some really experienced people here.

I'm looking to buy a Juno 6, not 60, 6.... USA 110-120v wall voltage
...anyway, you were mentioning the lack of space... why not go all-in, and roll a bunch of stuff into a Jupiter worth more than most ppl's cars?
I've been thinking about it.... very hard.I want to see if the economy tanks any harder... so far it hasn't dented the value of upper eschelon gear like a JP6 or MKS80

gotta find stuff to do... actually a close friend of mine from my dad's generation and I are thinking of starting a gear show. This is a guy who did live sound for the stones, Lou Reed... worked for Todd Rundgren, Hall & Oates so if we do it we'll be asking these people to come on and talk gear.

the korg is sloppy, but against other synths its 'lush' LOL the roland is thinner and kinda tight? but not always good tight.... nah, it sounds amazing. Its focused and plucky and japanese AND EMBARASSES MY MKS30 AND 50

man, next to eachother and also enxt to their popular plugin emulations these synths the juno and korg are so unique... the poly61 is clsoer to the juno, the 6 is dark and brooding... the juno is unstoppable plucky and cheerfull, they also DO NOT blend well, though either one sounds great with a prophet, DW6000, MKS 50, 30 etc.... weird... I'm really spending some time and they sound AWFUL together! The roland sounds thin and overly precisenext to the Korg and the Korg sounds muddy and sloppy aginst the roland! They make eachotehr sound mediocre but played individually the magic is SO there for both.

Limitations = creativity / desert island synth
I'm ignoring the VST part because I tend to use them for mock ups when I'm outta inputs and for thigns that are a headache on hardware due to challenged UIs (ahem, d50, wavestation, ANYTHING YAMAHA!)... without the limitation tag i would say Novation summit as it does a bit of everything pretty darned well with a great keybed and nearly knob per functon control with the visual slider method for envelopes which is always nice (thanks ARP).... and for the record I did an entire novation Peak demo song using no other gear for my equipboard review which novation also used in some advertising. Drums and all.
But in the limits game? ARP Odyssey of course. Or Solus, either way, slightly different ring mod options.... it is the most satisfying little synth out there to me. I can't think of a mono analog sound I can't make with it. And it intuitive. Once you know it you work FAST.
EDIT: also in favor of the Odyssey and its relatives on a desert island, its small and easy to carry while fleeing war painted half naked little boys chasing you down while shouting "Kill the PIG!!!"

it would be really funny to write up a comprehensive PDF manual for the site and then put it up and watch no one read it because we're musicians LOL
