How can I be designated as an Artist ?
It's ok Obi-wan...I simply and suddenly labelled my buchla soft synth as hardware. but don't sweat it Benny boy because Fear on no Buchla is the path to the dark side…fear leads to anger… anger leads to hate… hate leads to toxic gear acquisition syndrome.
did you say angry leads? but seriously, I've never felt my GAS was toxic.... but my house is getting a bit museumish this year now that you mention it.

I'm looking to buy a Juno 6, not 60, 6.... USA 110-120v wall voltage
I am really tempted to hack into this juno and add in midi and a PCB socket for that juno66 chip from tubutec... part of me wants it to be all minty and another part of me says 'make it useful'. I mean, MIDI and expanded memory really help the polysix out. Although stored patches never sound exactly the same every time you power up the korg, it just always surprises me.

dang, man... Pkennethk is right, you DO have a lot of plugins! SHNAPP, I thought my list was big.

It's not the hardware version.
I feel so crushed :-( although the arturia model does sound great....

Please add a "show ALL" button instead of "show more"
I'll mention 3 things:
- I too have felt some frustration with the "show more" option post-redesign on both my Equipboard and in my Following list, I've occasionally wished to be able to show more items before the fold... but speaking only for myself, I don't know if "show all" would be the right solution in some of these cases, even without the performance concerns.
I second that!

How can I be designated as an Artist ?
Like, it wouldn't make sense for ME to do that, because I'm not a famous artist in the least so my profile would just gather dust... also we sort everything by popularity so mine would be buried.
exactly, if you've got few or no fans the page will languish... if you wanna use it in like a electronic press kit it won't be helpful if booking agents for instance (if we ever have live music again) follow your link only to see that you're the only contributor to your artist page, it'll work against you and that would suck. Trust me, I've been at this a long time and used to be a 'pro' and I know how these animals think.

How can I be designated as an Artist ?
So, that begs the question - what would you like to see on your profile that would make you more happy with it? Is it missing the genre & role tags (e.g. Producer, Guitarist, etc)? Is it missing being able to attach photos of your own gear? Do you just want some kind of verified "check" that designates you as someone who creates music and performs live?
If you tell me, there's a good chance we'll build the feature. 🙂
perhaps we should make it so users can start their own pages but other users cna add to them like any artist page that WASN'T created by the artist. We're all artists in a sense and if someone on here achieves 15 minutes of fame and hasn't been updating their page another user could add an item they saw them using on youtube or whatever.... which is an unlikely but potentially cool scenario!

and would you please write a goddamned review of your music easel and post a video? hardly anyone has one (I know like 1 person) and I would really like your review and maybe a quick hands on demo. I think we all would! REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW

How can I be designated as an Artist ?
the short answer? if you want an artist page you can just start one, we haven't implemented any restrictions yet even though the mods and admins really frown on this behavior and I loudly and categorically discourage you from making one for yourself.
Its like the old joke, "how do you get to play Carnegie Hall? PRACTICE." You need fans and one of them would start one for you. That's how equipboard is meant to work. Its currently a bit dysfunctional as we haven't figured out the best way to discourage or prevent people from using it at cross purpose. Why do you want an artist page? All the user and artist pages look the same now. We're breaking down that abarrier as the whole concept of a music star disolves into history amidst social media and a global plague. And if you feel you're making art then you're an artist and you don't need us to give you the stamp of approval anyway. Be secure, excelsior!
there, I tried my best to answer nicely

I have a 1 owner juno 6 in transit from the 60 year old who hit it off from me on a facebook synth group. Thank god I"m a good composer and engineer. Earned his respect over months and he went "want my juno6, bought it at GC on sunset in 83" YES

soon, the output jack is a little loose so I'm going to retension her tonight before recording... have her set up with prophet right now looking all '82ish
still need a jupiter layer but hey... getting there!
Thanks for holding myhand through this awful process. Im surprised at how snappy the envelopes on this thing are, they're pretty much juno fast even though tis not its reputation, its just less punch but more swirly and midrangey. Anyway, I'll probably make a video soon.

offtopic but polysix came today... kiwi midi mod... I forgot how menacing and growly this synth was. It just eats other korgs. WHOA. Nicer keybed than the prophet actually.

Where can I find the list (and not only the number) of artists I am following?
The EB team is currently rolling out major design updates to our personal Equipboard pages. Looks like the ability to click on the "Following" # and be taken to the page of artists you're currently following has been temporarily removed, but I'm sure it will be back shortly. It's disappeared and re-appeared at least once during this rollout. Good catch that it's currently not working.
you should volunteer as a moderator, man

so I noticed a glitch reordering my gear on my profile. The polysix was at the bottom. I moved it up, I hit show more and there were 2 polysixes. One where I moved it and one at the bottom. So I deleted the 2nd one at the bottom. They all disappeared. I added it again, moved it up, now I see 2 again.

Decisions Decisions... Plz Halp!
Still, I suggest it to anyone that wants to get into headless guitars. It's cheaper than a Steinberger, plays just as good, and is a hell of a lot easier to tune.
my big turnoff to the steinberger was the tuning, when you could find them in stores in the 90s they were always out of tune and you could enver get them abck in fast enough not to lose interest and pick up a fender or something

Makes me think, should favorites be more prominently displayed on the profile (not just confined to the forum)? Maybe make the heart icon show within the cards when you're viewing someone else's profile?
I like the heart icon idea.... it would be cool if you could make favorites a category at the top maybe?
Bu seriously, great job Giullio and Michael!

😆... did you notice you can set any three favorites using the heart icon? And those are the three that will accompany your forum posts. Give it a shot!

... and you could see what gear built up to Trent Reznor. Maybe that's also a bad example ...
Perfect example as far as I'm concerned, because I've just gone through that exact process. I belatedly realized how influential Gary Numan was on Reznor after finally listening to The Pleasure Principle for the first time this year. (Also discovered that the riff I loved in Basement Jaxx's "Where's Your Head At" was just a Gary Numan sample, so that was embarrassing.) Equipboard was part of that process for me & led me to spending more time with my Arturia Mini V softsynth.
Not sure how you'd setup the musicology feature though, because from NIN & Einstürzende Neubauten (and even Sisters Of Mercy via the Korg A3) you can get to... U2's Achtung Baby album. But pointing from NIN to U2 circa Joshua Tree / Rattle & Hum would be ludicrous.
but no no, that's precisely what I'm on about, like soemthing that will map the use of a piece of gear back in time from your artist maybe? I dunno exactly. Or what if you could see a lineage? like the whole family of curtis filter analog polysynths? Lots of different brands with the same filters and often VCOs... its ambitious and I'm not a programmer or web designer, but I think its worth thinking about.
6yalmost 6 years ago
I had a thought for a new feature too... you know how you have the gear recommender? what if you did an artist recommender. Like if I type in that I really was interested in pink floyd's gear it would give me a bunch of lesser known prog rock bands that used synthesizers and hiwatts and stuff... that's a bad example maybe. More like if I look up NIN and I get filter but also pop will eat itself, ministry, puppy etc? But also you would get like Gary Neuman, new order, but also throbbing gristle and neubauten, like related bands and also the roots and you could see what gear built up to Trent Reznor. Maybe that's also a bad example but I feel like buuilding some sort of musicology helper into EB is a sound idea because all this music comes from somewhere and a lot of times it starts out with one guy getting a brand new marshall in the 60s or an arp odyssey in the 70s...

So if you go to your profile and it's empty... don't panic!!
Aren't the letters on the guide supposed to be all caps and cheeriiy colored? its been awhile but i feel sure I'm right about that.
I'll keep this thread updated when the rollout of the new code finishes doing it's thang. Happy Friday everyone. 🍻
glad I saved my polysix already
can i still post reviews to gear?

I remember you mentioning that and the 61 has that characteristic sound, it really does. Its not that different from the juno really. Juno's chorus is better to my ear. The DCOs sound the same but you've got 2 of 'em, the fitler is its own thing. Korg has had a lot of filter varieties over the years, but roland by 1980 was settling into 2 characteristic designs, the jupiter/juno stacked ladders and the x0x fitlers and eventually settles on one really; The IR2109 that creeps up in the jupiter 6 first and then turns up various other places and is closely related to the 106 chip. Everything gets that fitler until they go all digital. And that's a watered down jp8/ju6 fitler really.
korg you get SSMs and the weird proprietary filter, among other things over the years. They're allover the place.
and yeah, modding these synths is an expensive PITA so tis great to get one pre-modified....

the polysix is actually 1 oscillator too, its just VCO, the midi is a retrofit. They came out about the same time give or take 6 months. 81ish. The poly6 isn't as tuning stable and its 1 wave shape at a time, but its otherwise similar architecture.
this kinda sold me
my favorite juno type sounds actually sounded better on the polysix and I couldn't really understand why i didn't like the ones I've played before and I hope the problem was me or a poorly maintained example. Its just the juno plusck sounds that the korg is weaker on, the somewhat mroe sluggish envelopes, free running VCOs and lack of hipass are a bummer, but my mks50 and mks30 excel at those snappy sounds.
But watch me chasing another juno6 in 3months LOL

I'm not sure, I don't have a lot into it.... I might keep it though. Its sort of its own thing. Not a polysix and not a jx3p
I did it, I pulled the trigger on a very nice condition, kiwi modded polysix with th a fresh battery, cleaned up power supply and all the works for about what i paid for the aborted juno. I was watching a comparison video and found I prefered the sound of the korg. I'll miss the simultaneous wave shapes but my prophet does that. I'll miss the high pass too, but oh well. I don't think I gave the polysx a fair shake when I've played them in the past. I feel a early 80s poly video coming on, maybe a polysix and prophet medley. I might mod the output for stereo, apparently it can be made into true stereo modulation FX somehow, I'll have to look at a schematic. Juno's just off the table. Every time I'm going to get one I get something else I wind up liking better. The prophet, the mks30, and I have a feeling the polysix will really scratch my japanese poly itch as its got the pre juno VCO sound without having to spring for a jupiter 4 (an 8s out of the question). Now that jupiter 4 though, mmmm....

did I tell you the end of my juno6 journey? seller backed out and returned my money! Throwing in the towel on the whole idea. I'm about to buy a kiwi modded korg polysix instead and possibly sell my poly61 if its not different enough from the six and the prophet. It has a special filter sound and its DCOs, but I have a feeling between the mks30, polysix and prophet it'll be overkill and its the worst programming interface. The korg polysix chorus/phaser/ensemble is as nive in its own way as the juno chorus and way more versatile. I just lose the punchy DCOs with simultaneous waveforms and the roland filter, but I get midi, SSM VCOs and filters, and a lower pricetag.

Decisions Decisions... Plz Halp!
Right now, I've found a few arpeggiated settings in Analog Labs 4 what came with the Arturia, basically I just hold down a key and it does all this crazy do de da do da de do da stuff. I assume that's all there is to it?
yeah, that's it... usually. The sound design stuff is a little more complicated. Having mostly come from the unintelligible world of yamaha synths and non-preset storing mono synths as a kid I tend to just put up a saw or sine and design every sound ground up unless there's a something I made and saved for later on a synth during a fit of experimentation. Like I save patches but I rarely reuse them. I find it so enjoyable to just start with a blank slate. Its the direct opposite of how I am with guitar usually where I just turn up an old amp and plug into it with a good guitar and maybe just maybe a treble booster or fuzzy thing. I just fire up a synth on init patch and get imagining and if it won't do what I want I switch, although at this point I have a good idea of the style of synthesis I wanna use. 9 time out of t0 its some variation of subtractive, either a nice fat analog like the prophet or something wavetabley (especially since getting the argon8m, which is like wavetables on crack despite being fully digital). Even my go to FM has digital fitlers at this point. The DX7 coems out rarely and I'm all about the sy35 and EX5 that are kidna wavetable subtractive deals with a mr hyde personality that's 4 or 6 op FM respectively opening up a world of possibilities. Then there's the phase distortion synth, the casio cz101 that i should play more.... and the K5 additive synth that deserves more play time but is a PITA to program, need a K5000, just lost an auction for one on fleabay where I wouldn't pay over $750 for it, but I regreat it and and.... what were we talking about?
watch out for synthesizers. Rabbit hole. Worse than my amp collecting 10 years ago. During that phase I settled on Voxes and Hiwatts and let other stuff go. I let synths go but only if I get something similar and better or flat out hate the thing.
6yalmost 6 years ago
Decisions Decisions... Plz Halp!
its not rocket science....really. There's stuff I do with synths that IS rocket science.... but not this
sound design is rocket science at a certain level, but using the basic facilities of a good 80s synth? not so much
people, including you, over estimate the technical difficulties.... by the same token lay people assume synths and drums machines just make music for you which is equally inaccurate. If there was a "#1 hit" button on a dx7 we would all push it and get rich.

Decisions Decisions... Plz Halp!
I think I could do that if I still had 80s enough guitar gear but I don't have a jcm800 or a cheesey preamp like the ADA mp1 anymore.
the synth stuff isn't even played, its arpeggiatior and sequencer work. I mean, you really just set up an arpeggiator in latch and hit a key every chord change and sit back and enjoy the easiness. Or better still send it a new note via midi or CV every time you want to change chords. I cna give you abacking track in the amount of time it takes to press record in my studio.... virtually.
