everybody knows neon gridlines equal bad 12 bit digital delay lines... 12 bit multitap delay, like my 80s TOA triple delay

see, that video is still synth wave I guess... like in that miami vice sense...

also, don't forget that Wyld Stallyns were given Steinbergers by Rufus at the end of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.

I was more into this guy as a kid though.... oddly, I wound up with an olympic white strat and marshall plexi rig for years....

we can't talk about EVH's oberheim usage, we can't

I was just saying that what folks now know as synth wave is derived from a really non-rock tradition all the way back to kraftwerk... those guys like early human league or john foxx or whoever weren't really using guitars at all apart from cabaret voltaire to make dalek noises.... but I do LIKE all the aforementioned acts except for Rush, yes. But they're prog bands for sure. Apart from Van Halen who is, well, Van Halen.... and Bowie of course who is BOWIE all caps. The synth pop and synth wave music that those terms refer to are pretty guitar-less except Gary Neuman pretty much until the late 80s and early 90s when you start gettingyour Heaven 17s and Tears for Fears, Depeche Mode starts using guitar a little and then you ministry and NIN bring guitar into industrial again where it had been pretty absent since the 70s with gristle and Neubauten, although it was also pretty unrecognizable as guitar, not unlike cabaret voltaire's aforementioned dalek noises. What am I on about? I have no idea anymore!

the picture of geddy shows an oberheim 4 or 8 voice (looks like an 8 given the hugeness but without counting the SEM modules I don't want to say and I don't want to count past 4, I'm a musician) and is pre-MIDI

those aren't synth based acts except maybe kate bush at times... but point taken, I guess a few greatpeople and also the guy from rush used them.

Because I've kind of went full-blown "I want headless instruments. Because synthwave. Because reasons."

I think they're more of a prop in the 80s tradition... I mean, the only guy I can think of who actually played a steinberger is Reeves Gabrels when he was with tin machine.

Equipboard Page Ideas

I like it the way it is right now but I'm a creature of habit. I also find looking at someone else's page reading the first sentence of the review will draw me in or I'll think "wow, what a moron!" and click away,

Equipboard Page Ideas

I'll throw in some things I'd like to see, in no particular order:

  • In the forum, the 3 pieces of gear that are featured from your Equipboard make no sense. It would be cool to be able to select your 3 favorite or most important pieces of equipment.
  • If someone added gear photos, it would be great to see those first thing on someone's profile. I think setup pics are very interesting and they can then give way to the list of gear.
  • The WANT list should behave like a more traditional wishlist. I think one of Equipboard's advantages is, as an independent website, it's not beholden to any one store or marketplace, so it would be cool to pull interesting info from your wishlist items like who has the lowest new price, the fastest shipping, the best used price, etc. And I could periodically get emails if something goes on sale.

I concur with every one of those points... the forum images make me crazy, I have 3 lame, every day pieces of gear under my user pic out of a collection of stuff that's way cooler. I would like a few more gear porn slots and then yeah, it would be cool if they were at the top of my user page. As I am redoing my homestudio in my bedroom to give my son more space to play downstairs its actually looking pretty cool and I would love to upload the pics. The wish list definitely needs easier integration with yor shopping partners.... I find it difficult using equipboard for sweetwater because I do a lot of my sweetwater stuff by phone. I'm doing large orders and don't always know what I need and I lean on my 'sales engineer' to help me integrate everything. I deal with sweetwater and vintage king because of the personalized service putting rigs together on budget. You should work something out with them for orders that are done that way where like I could give Elliott a code so you get a kickbackon stuff I didn't put in the cart via equipboard. Often I buy demo units and I can't add them to my cart via your page so there's something else sticking you in the shopping department.

long time yamaha fanboy. the early DXs are indeed prettier than the mk2s and the sy series! No need to mess with my original 80s dx7 mk1... gorgeous as is.... love my korg dw6000s too. My prophet doesn't have thelooks but the black and white screams "serious instrument" to me :-)

I haven't been able to read my notifications on the site itself at all in 2020. I get the red indicator that I have a new notification, but My Profile > Notifications always leads to a 500 error page.

King Tone Duellist Thoughts?

I like the triode electronics kits. best transformers.... I like the champ RI, I'm not a massive pedal guy so the tweed champs are really good for me. I think the bf champ is better for pedals though. a bit cleaner, tone controls, scooped mids etc. Try an ac4though too, the new ones are hella nice. Even the less expensive PCB versions are sweet as heck.

King Tone Duellist Thoughts?

basically I get a champ kit and build it, test it, mail it to you (and you ay me somewhere in teh process)... its the simplest tube amp

they don't really make a champ anyore except the clapton tweed reissue anyway, look up a champ schematic. there are hardly any parts in it

I could make you something if you want... I can rattle off a champ kit in like a day

if you want to be portable and can deal with 2 in and 2 out the SSL2 is the best affordable usb bus power itnerface hands down. 2+ has extra outs and MIDI if you need it. At that price it beats everything, you have to spend extra for a focusrite clarett or the higher end steinberg with the neve modified preamps with transformers. The budget version of the super analog mic pre sounds great, has 2 modes for classic and modern sound and both make excellent DIs depending on the sound you're going for. I also think the monitoring soudns a bit better than a scarlet or cheap steinberg, presonus etc. I wish they made a bigger one.

something TINY.... the voxac4HW served me well when Lucian was little and napping and going to bed at a reasonable hour! Then I sold it to Narcist. Old fender champs sound great. Blackface ones are a world class pedal paltform for night time practice...

I'm very anti mesa but not from tone perspective... they SOUND great and generally give you a looose aproximation of a couple amp sounds and a few of their own tones... their failure rate is too high for me. Now, they stand behind their warranty well... but on the road thats bullshit. I have a show to play now.

the lonestarspecial and even the standard lonestar I found to be the 2 most musical mesas I've played followed by the trem-o-verb single rec.

one(s) further thought(S).... the whole family of soft clip and so-called transparent OD is very amp contingent. A TS is really great into a blckfaced fender... the 808 stinks into solid state and the 9 is soemwhat better but still prefers to hit ahrd into a triode.... SD1 wants a marshall or vox to shine... bluesbreakers honestly sound great through through marhsalls and tweeds and okay through smaller blackface and silverface amps but can boogie through a decent solid state too. The klon circuit always sounds best through a twin or showman to me, tames the bass, andds a smidge of crunch, works the preamp hard if you boost into it but lets it be like a great sounding 60s/70sfender at less than earsplitting volumes. But being a very colored boost with dirt blended in via a balance pot? needs tubes or it sounds FUNKY BAD to me

6yalmost 6 years ago

King Tone Duellist Thoughts?

Really curious how it compares to the something like the KoT.

by the way I built a king of tone years ago and liked it but gave it away.... honestly I feel better off with very off the shelf pedals for some reason LOL

EDIT: the stock mk1 bluesbreaker sounds very good already... honestly I really like the SD1 the best of all this stuff. On stage it realy works well and the mxr superbadass takes the circuit to new heights with that 100hz gyrator circuit and mid hump button to make it TS808ish. Give me that guy and a stock rat, any era and I'm cool.

Sounds like a challenge James...

When COVID is relaxed enough to travel, gather all your native plants and animals and come on over for a deathmatch! It'll be a decent blue/ fight, we can keep going til your guys are cactused/ stuffed/ defeated. (as long as no one is rooting for anyone... thats's different here too!.. and before you take your jocks/ reg's/ shorts/ boxers/ underpants off... when I say we would be great mates... yep... that's way different here too... it's someone you could hang with/ be friends with/ have a beer with)

1 word.... BEARS

common to both languages and they shall be victorious against marsupials and toxic arthropods!

King Tone Duellist Thoughts?

ah.... the bluesbreaker mk1 and tubescreamer share similarities... hmm

here's a god explanation of the BB that may help you decide if 2 flavors of a good clipping arrangement are what you need :-)

https://aionelectronics.com/project/cerulean-bluesbreaker-overdrive/

to correct myself, the arrangement is a bit different yielding different results, but they're not to ground so not a distortion...

although the centaur goes tog round and is called an OD but what do I know?

King Tone Duellist Thoughts?

the names of the sections suggest amp in a box dirt with dumble flavor? without further googling you tell me if that's the idea and I'll tell you how a steel string singer is just a modded dual showman but that a little box of transistors can't replace big output tubes and chunks of iron wound with wire feeding massive speaker enclosures...

or tell me that's not the idea and I'll look it up further and try to figure out what makes it tick for you

Jim, hehe... The spouse can throw a muff at my face any da--OHHHHHHH, you mean the effect. Tracking now. My bad. I thought... nevermind. Anyroad.

Leigh always shaved, haven't seen bush since long before I got married.

Which is only fair, I've been out of work with this bloody nerve damage since January, and they've been bringing home the bread, as it were. Granted, my insurance has been paying me to sit on me arse, so we've not been hurting for dosh, but you know how it goes.

I thought you won bread and brought home bacon?

OK, I don't even properly play synth (I bang around on my little Arturia Keylab), but I'd do immoral things for a Juno-6.

I don't think there's a proper way to play a synth, its such a pliable instrument, even soemthing as simple as the juno...

just don't say which things in case the police get hip to this thread

And they are right, I have been a bit... Well, I've probably spent as much as a good used car in the past 8 months on gear acquisition.

But hey! Collision Devices Black Hole Symmetry. It'll be here by probably Thursday. Super stoked on that! :D

1 cngrats on a new effect

2 you can't touch me for excess....I've spent like money was going out of style lately. Tell your wife "my internet buddy's wfe let him buy a vintage propht and juno!" and don't admit my wife is dead

At least I'm not sleeping on the couch, aye? And it's only another month until the amp. So that's no big deal.

been there (the couch) by choice... at least she hasn't thrown a big muff at yor head and scored a hit. And then you fnd out she wants extra money to spend on useless decor items and heroin.... I moved to a hotel once

I'm looking to buy a Juno 6, not 60, 6.... USA 110-120v wall voltage

I have so many analogs this is like a breath of dense, grimey distopian neuromancer air(smog?)! it has this machined steel korg style joystick that's fully assignable for X+. X-, Y+, Y- via the matrix that has the best feel of any pitch/mod interface 've ever touched. I like side to side pitch bend up and down and 2 non related parameters on Y up and Y down

edit: dude I have a lot of synths, I just looked in my walk in closet and I need to cool it... they get played though

Congrats at long last!

I know the finest DCOs Roland ever shipped will treat you well.

 :synth:

bleep bloop, synth party, bleep bloop

I need a bigger stand for the ancient polysynths now! I think 4 tiers is the limit in any safe level of sturdiness... I guess juno, prophet, maybe poly61 and either the dw6000 or esq1, tough call...

no itnernal memory in a 60, no patch storage ;-) but I also got offered another one today, same money, also near mint cosmetics but well maintained other than a recently broken pitch wheell/stick thingie, just tried to bring him down because of the effort of isntalling a new one... so $100 for my effort and 25 less for the part.... we'll see. I feel more confident about this one.

anyway, remember I wasn't enthused about the modal argon8? take it back.... I get it now, read the manual over and over between experiments and I own it. Its a monster and makes anything from bread and butter analogish and later 80s digital sounds to huge otehrworldly soundscapes thata re the stuff of plugins but so much ebtter sounding, so much better.... weird fitlers and things and the bass.... I have a gentle high pass on the output in the glonal menu and out into a hardware limiter to avoid blowing my woofers on fucking 200 watt rms 3 ways right now.... the strange thigns this can do. oh man

buy an argon8.... whooooaWOW!
