I don't really love prog rock, but you clearly do... King Crimson rules, but are they really prog?

anyway I leave you with this: https://youtu.be/Af8ltlcZNi0

COVID-19 - How's everyone doing? Anyone playing more music?

May I just weigh in on you guys? Those two pieces you sent were...fantastic! @jimmarchi1, @soulsash, I am no expert at synths (or music in general), nor do I know how to play them or anything. Jim's song had this hectic vibe to it, and those octave synth pulses (can you even call it like that) reminded me of something Bloc Partyish, such as that ending in "Ratchet". Very nice, expecting nice, salty and edgy political commentary on that one. I enjoyed Soulsash's tune as well, I like the minimalistic vibe to it - it sounds very relaxed and kudos for the drums, especially the ride cymbal - I don't know why I'm saying this, but it sounds so wonderful at certain parts.

1 thanks. 2 Solusah's tune is really well mixedmixed ina somewhat unconventionalway.

Since everybody is sharing something, hm - I might share two of pieces I did way back, as all of my equipment is still in Slovenia. One of them is a cover Ostajem sa vragom

2 thumbs up

COVID-19 - How's everyone doing? Anyone playing more music?

it sounds pretty realistic, maybe not as itneresting as drums recorded in an acual space, even a shittier space, but it definitely has that 60s 'speakers in a chamber with room mics" sound that can be ahrd to do really well without access to EMI or Ocean Way

COVID-19 - How's everyone doing? Anyone playing more music?

I eally like the 'distant' drums they sit in the picket well and I'm a big fan of that 'just room mics and overheads' sound.

Seeking a professional producer to hear me out

his is the last record I made, sadly the band broke up as I finished the mix... I didn't do much recording but I wound up performing some keys, handpercussion, doing a string arrangement and putting my glam aht on and whipping out a guitar solo too as well as doubling some acoustic guitar. I like how it turned out.

unfinished synthpop reord (don't ask about why it wasn't finished, lets just say I have a huge bone to pick with microsoft and seriously thinking of going Mac again even though I ahte those guys too)

this was my band about 10-15 years ago, co produced record, played lead gitar, did soem screaming. Mix was kinda collaborative and we ran out of money near the end but I stilllike how it turned out even if it has a slightly unfinished feel to me

one of my non-collaborative singer songwriter type songs https://soundcloud.com/james-marchione-1/half-empty-feat-jim-boggia

I'll dig some other stuff up if you really want, that's just stuff I know how tog et links too. Lets hear some demos

Seeking a professional producer to hear me out

I'm a former engineer, very experienced sound designer and programmer, worke din some famous palces with famous dudes and not so famous dudes who were totally more talented than the famous ones. Didn't want to move to LA. I don't like LA. I am no longer a professional but in my 20s I made my living solely as a 'producer' (I hate that word) and sideman... anyway. I'll help you if I like your stuff and you're willing to be cooperative and take constructive criticism. what's your budget? Is there a budget? Can I hear the material? Do you have lead sheets for me with lyrics, chord changes etc? Will I have to transcribe it all myself?

I play a slew of isntruments and I've forgotten more music theory than most pop/rock people ever knew.... even my modest homestudio is pretty well equipped for electronic music production and cutting bass guitar, guitar piano etc... no fancy outboard, but lots of synths, guitars, amps, drawers of effects etc... I'm bored and have time to collaborate until this pandemic blows over.

send demos to jimmarchi1 @ gmail.com....mp3, 160 or 192kb please

COVID-19 - How's everyone doing? Anyone playing more music?

all of my basic tracking is done, my buddy Kenny is working on guitar... I have one hell of a song coming.... on the eqipboard end of things I used and abused every piece of gear at my house on this! Its a ministry/NIN type song and I think its political. So far I think the first lyric will be "I can tell by the suit that you wear that you're the kind of man we shouldn't trust." And I think my chorus might go something like "lies! why won't you drink your bleach and die?" LOL

Hope everyone is well. Please tell me you and the wife are okay, Solusah!

we're punk rockers here, so not even the mods should follow a code of conduct.... not even the pirate code, which is apparently more of a guideline anyway

COVID-19 - How's everyone doing? Anyone playing more music?

The spouse was sent home by nurse from work. Heart issues. They've never had them before. They were given a COVID test. We are waiting results. We're quarantined until further notice. So in addition to the lockdown, we're now not even allowed out to get groceries, we've got to either have them delivered, or have a family member shop for us.

Their heart having issues suddenly concernes me. I am very worried about them. To the point of panic attack worry.

oh man, best of luck....

My Strat is the best. MiM '04 Standard Strat,

Krist Novoselic’s bass tone

he definitely used a rat and some sort of chorus or flanger when I saw them... pedals were duck taped to the stage

COVID-19 - How's everyone doing? Anyone playing more music?

8 or 9 cases? I'll trade with you! my suburb is mired in cases and while the body count isn't black death level, our nursing home patients aredropping like flies. Its sad. Nice find on the taylor, wipe it down! 96 was still during their golden era by the way.

COVID-19 - How's everyone doing? Anyone playing more music?

my son is playing my stuff more than I am LOL

TRYING to teach my daughter to play. But she ended up with the grandmother when the lockdown order came down, and we decided it was safer for her there since the wife's a frontliner. She uses the excuse of "my guitar is out of tune." So that's a good problem to have, mate!

I'm really glad to be home and not still in skilled nursing, your wife's a trooper. Its gotta be stressful with kids. My best friend's wife is head doctor of the busiest ER in center city Philly... somehow they're holding up okay. No one sick and keeping in good spirits.

How old is your duaghter? maybeshe's just too young for guitar. Digital pianos never go out of tune ;-) I've had my kid in lessons steady for 9months (had to take over myself when this shit hit the fan) and he was doing it less seriously since he was 4 but he had trouble sitting for a full formal lesson and we just worked on the absolute basics. He really loves it and he's been playing nonstop since the virus landed. Piano's a better first isntrument than guitar.Just a thought.

I'm looking to buy a Juno 6, not 60, 6.... USA 110-120v wall voltage

you're right, I'm wrong, they're the same fadrrs, if there's nos tepping then if not a 1 to 1 replacement then they're at least tradition mader potentiometers that just get scanned by the storage software

Krist Novoselic’s bass tone

I don't know what to tell you because in that era its ampeg or possibly hiwatt. I think the ampeg was all tube, 400 watt rackmount SVT type with the classiv bacandall/active mid tnone circuit as well as a solid state gaphic EQ... the hiwatt was a modified DR103 but he may have been just using the preamp (still a pretty unique tube design in that amp with totally unique bass and treble controls as far as the FMV tonestack goes not to mention a unique layout of the gainstageing, nothing is like a dr103)... both those amps have pretty unique tone circuits so you're probably not replicating his settings, plus the guy sued 4x12 cabs for bass so thatw as further influencing the shape of his sound. If you're dead set on his sound I can build you a hiwatt preamp in a floor box or a 1ru box no problem for a few hundred bucks. The SVT, even wihout the graphic EQ would cost a lot more, the midrange on the V series uses an expensive multitap inductor. WIthout those oddball amps knowing his settings will do little for you. Getting an isolated recording and running a spectrum analyzer on it would help you know the general frequency response but there's a lot of other stuff going on in circuits like these.

I'm looking to buy a Juno 6, not 60, 6.... USA 110-120v wall voltage

on the slider's, they are one of the reasons I prefer the 6 to the 60, the 60 needs to be able to store the position of the slider for thepatch storage while the 6 has no patch memory... the sliders are the same size but not the same electronically due to being just straight ahead faders and the longevity of the 60's slider suffer as a result of patch recall....

and I knew you weren't flaming me with your sarcasm, I laughed, I just wanted to point out what a nut I actually am about my stuff (or anyone's stuff who hands said stuff to me for service)

Faith Jim... faith

faith that the postal service and UPS take so long to deliver in the best of times that the virus will die in transit? A good bet. I got outbid anyway, I've had to lower my limit on a juno6 due to financial concerns, so I elt the last one go when it topped $1200, still, I think in the longrun the pandemic will score the last piece I really lust after for my arsenal. I'm never sure if I'm kidding about the virus, I've been insanely careful ever since completing a 14 day self-sequester after possible exposure at work following our office closure. People will come to mental health appointments even if they're coughing in a pandemic, even if they're ER nurses.... gotta get that xanax.

the only way to clean a pre-MIDI Roland polysynth is to massage it with the softest microfiber cloth you can find, ever-so-slightly dampened with warm, distilled water, while whispering to it with soft affirmations of your undying affection.

This is how I treat all my old gear anyway. When I sell a piece it often goes out with admonisions to the new owner that he/she must care for it and love it like a small child or favorite pet. I lovingly maintain even the oldest guitar aps while I'm their custodian. For a good 19 or 20 years I've been restoring and then maintining a finnicky, 58 year old AC30. The past few years I've been periodically just checking the parts drift with a meter even when its working fine and sounding great... in the meanswhile Iwas building up a stash of early WIMA metalized caps in the right values to replace anything that goes too far out of whack in the signal path and when a value can't be found (or its an aful Hunts cap) I get soemthing that's new but is damned close to what I'm replacing. Its a sickness, like guys who maintain vintage cars.

New stuff? just tools... old stuff? Its not better (all the time) but its got personality and a story and should be kept alive for future generations. What's funny is I'm old enough that there are peices I bought new or used when you could still find new units in stores even if discontinued that is rapidly achieving or HAS achieved vintage status to the minds of the people who decide these things. Its really weird.

COVID-19 - How's everyone doing? Anyone playing more music?

Kudos for surviving, team.... although the virus isn't superlatively deadly, bitches might be coming for your toilet paper with dull axes and sharpened baseball bats!

I might go to my mother in law's to get the rest of my son's Lego and some of her TP stash so on the way back I can hit my studio. What gear should I grab? I'm thinking Volka Kick, Arp Odyssey full size, Pittsburgh Modular Microvolt, Mopho X4 or Prologue and maybe my DW6000? thoughts? I hurt my finger so I'm not playing any guitar.

Also... when this clears up enough to make a parts order, who wants a jim-watt? I could start wiring boards I just need transformers and chassis/headboxes to complete them. I'm so bored (pun intended) that I would sell them for cost. Free labor.

COVID-19 - How's everyone doing? Anyone playing more music?

I am measuring my temperature and it doesn't exceed 35,9 Celsius, which is about as perfect as it can be - this is my normal temperature and I don't show any symptoms. I wasn't forcibly evacuated, I just left before borders closed. I wasn't ordered to leave. I hope that the company survives - although I am still not sure where do you work.

We just had a horrible earthquake in Zagreb (capital of Croatia) - no one died, but our cathedral got damaged and several buildings and cars were torn down. A 15-year-old child is in critical condition, we hope that it will get better. People are on the streets again, which is so, so, bad because of the current situation with coronavirus. I don't know what the hell is going on, but nevermind...

I wpork in behavioural health, mainly focused on finding outpatient services for folks with mental disorders although we also have therapy services for depressed housewives and ADHD kids which is ou bread and butter financially. But my thing is people with more severe pathologies, getting them in with our psychiatrists.... we had a lot of people in and out who maybe weren't focused on this virus, they were focused on their problems so everyone who had patient contact for the last 2 weeks could've been expsed, there were eople coughing up a storm and despite our encouragement not everyone observed social distancing
