its more like 'define metal' becaus ebefore the mesas with the grpahic EQ came out when Iw as a kid metal wasn't that scooped out.... guys used marshalls and when you scoop the mdis on a amrshall its not really doing the same thing.... mesa really opened up that whole 'hollow at 1k' thing

brutally! but not so brutally you bust the dinky faders on the graphic EQ, they're delicate

We just started learning (about 4 months ago, currently taking lessons) and playing the acoustic guitar.

we own a Yamaha FG830 dreadnought guitar and I am currently looking to purchase another guitar in a different guitar body shape. (eventually I want to upgrade my Yamaha FG830 to a nicer guitar Like a Martin D-18)

Since I am just starting I am not sure what style of playing I want to pursue, I would like to experiment with all three (flat-picking, strumming, finger-style). They all sound good and have their different purposes. So I was hoping to find a guitar that is a good multi purpose one. But since I have a dreadnought guitar (Yamaha FG830) already, which could be used for flat picking. The new one could lean towards strumming and finger-style playing but, maybe with an emphasis on finger-style. I have been looking at a lot of different guitars in the OM, Grand Auditorium, Grand Symphony...etc body styles. But I seem to be having a hard time deciding which brand and model because, to me they all sound so good. I know playing a guitar before purchase is an important factor in choosing one you like, but some of the ones I have been looking at are not stocked at the guitar stores around me. Below you will find a list of the ones I have been looking at and I also listed some important specifications that I am looking for In a guitar.

that's the lack of engative feedback to stabilize the circuit.... sicne it doesn't need that then tehre's nothing cancelling the harmonics out and being cathode biased and tube rectified the 15 and 30 will definitely be compressing and adding lots of harmonics. but the preamp is also flatter. Even the top boost cna eb made pretty flat with both controls at zero

electronically a vox is just flat, not mid ehavy... every amp with tone controls just has a mid scoop no matter where you set the controls. Actually, the top boost is mid scooped but its not as pronounced as a lot of toehr amps. I guess there are a few tweeds with 2 or 3 band controls thata ren't heavily scooped at all possible settings, like the pro/super/bandmaster... then there's ampeg and orange with teh baxandall that's flat with both cotnrols at 50, but that's another story. I think we're so used to eharing blackface fenders which are powerfully midscooped even with everythign at zero that everything else soudsn like varying degrees of mid bump

but yeah, clapton strat, sounds dumb when other people play it... you're thinking it'll replace a tubescreamer into a blackface or silverface but it just doesn't, it soudns goofy as fuck into everything but a tweed fender or an old marshall

you can use anything for that, lmost every pedal cuts bass and many have some sort of mid hump. They all do other things too. I like dynacomps personally.... or sued to. I just plug right into the amp anymore, fuck all this pedal bullshit. If I don't like my sound I'll pay better, that's usuall the real problem.

I guess, the tbescreamer does a lot more than just boost the mids like the clapton boost htough. And there's is NO NEED for a tubescreamer. Ever. Its just not needed. You don't need it. Need's a strong word.

I have one.... you used to see theme verywhere now they don't make as many I guess, it was good bang ofr buck when Iw as younger. I got mine used for a couple hundred bucks at Daddy's Junky when I was up in Connecticut for some reason... mine has a medium sort of depth, defintiely less than an inch, not too pronounced of a V shape.... I've played some thata re a bit deeper on the enck with a really pronounced V

Clpton's stuff sounds good when he plays it... it ill sound awful when you play it. His whole deal is like the midboost blackie copy into a gunned low power tweed twin. Maybe you could get away with like a JTM45 but it just soudns dump otherwise.... and it helps to be clapton. I knew a guy with a clapton strat. He used the mid boost like crazy. He played a super reverb or a dunky little pr junior and sued a tubescreamer. He also was not clapton but he thought he was.... people just sound dmb with clapton signature gear and fender should stop selling it. LOL

its got weird bpickups and thats tupid on baord mid booster but otherwise its a good guitar

the jimmy vaughn strat is a fender "V" too.... its like a boatneck with less shoulder. Basically in the 50s and 60s they'd go to make a boat shaped neck that was like a full inch thick but they would get carried away sanding it and it would get a little smaller and more round. But that ebcame a shape of its own

its really common on strats... notably its the clapton enck shape

nah, definitely the worst stereo unit ever that's why you cna find one that's like new, the original owners didn't even wanna use it... great stereo modes and all, but just no. I'm sure they're right for soembody... you probably wouldn't like many of my guitars, they're not easy to play, the action's not aprticularly low and the necks range from a soft V up to some baseball bats.... when iw as younger I didn't udnerstand the big neck thing but I get it now

if you don't use the wang bar, prefer rosewood to maple fingerbaord and don't care about the sound of the springs resonating when you play really loud (the way you should) I highly recommend the Robert Cray sig model actually... I should make special emtnion of thsi guitar as its a great value being mexican, has a medium but full neck, and is very distinct frome very other affordable strat out there.

it IS a custom, I still have good vision for a guy my age and I can just make out the "C" in the word "custom" on the headstock

step 1, go to a store

step 2, play a bunch of strats in your price range

step 3, repeat at another store

step 4, purchase your favorite

or are you looking for a totally different guitar? try a middle of the line yamaha revstar for a gibson feel... sort of a more elegant les paul special with some snazzy electronic features, fantastic build quality at about the 5 to 6 hundred US dollar price point

if you don't like the revstar then go back to fender... if you're tired of a strat try a Telecaster

I say this to people a lot, including students when I still taught guitar.... maybe stick with your beginner guitar if its an okay guitar, make sure its setup as wella s possible, then go buy a legit amp.... a student guitar through a good amp will be a giant tonal upgrade compared to a more expensive guitar through your beginner bedroom amplifier. It'll probably imprve your playing being able to 'play into' a good amp.

for me most current producton strats have scrawny, wimpy necks, but for you they may be just right. Personally I tick with certain signature model with very vintage appointments and neck profiles.... I've owned some strats ove rthe eyars that were very well amde guitars but they just weren't for me. I want a decently big neck with a U, soft V or boat type of profile. The neck they call a C shape these days is too small for me. Soke of the necks on american standards and the mexis tandards are comically thin and have no shoulder and on a strat I might want to bring my thumb up and anchor it on that shoulder, Hendrix style.

But fender makes a lot of good guitars, the mexican guitars are a helluva deal for the amount of craftsmanship that goes into them.

you're right, that's a CBS style Telecaster Custom like Keef used to play in the 70sand 80s

I'm not sure how the courtesy outlet on the polytune is wired, if its just a parallel output you need to add in the amperage consumption of the polytune as well. Just try it and see if your pedals sound the same as run solo.... hoenstly the delaya nd reverb might not even pass signal if they don't get their full amperage, digital cna eb like that, so that'll be a dead tip off that you're exceeding the supply's rating because the polytune's outlet is just a parallel connection which si what I would expect. Also, if they do run I do not advise you run real close to the amperage rating of a wallw art like this, they're almost alwys cheap transformers in there and you're liely to fry it by taxing it so hard.

You also may encoutner noise issues (as you suspect) with so many pedals on the same unregulated, unfitlered supply. Just spring for a power supply if you need all these doohickeys.

why 2 channels?

its a rabbit hole... if you want to go the ahrdware route you wills till ened a DAW and you willd efinitely need an interface probably with MIDI in, out and maybe thru that's capable of recording however many channels you want to record simultaneously (you cna record by overdubbing 1 channel at a time but a lot of guys in your genre who use hardware want to run a couple pieces of gear and once and record them live at least as the foundation of the track)...

figure out the audio capture end of things and then come back with a budget for software and ahrdware... let me know if you wanna do alla hrdware or hardware sequenced by the DAW or a mix of hardare and software running off the DAW. Your needs and also your learning curveswill be different depending on what approach you wanna come in with. You can always move toewards a more computer based setup with ease but its costly to go the other way from mroe computer based to moreoutbaord and analog based not to mention a totally different elarning curve for all this physical equipment, aprticularly analog sequencers and hardware digital sequencers.... if that's your route buite the bullet and you cna always backtrack to a more modern approach if it suits you soemtimes.

so be more specific about how you want to work and I'll give you some oppinions.

I can recall so many shows in philly where he graciously regaled me with his Leo Fender stories over a beer after the show. A true gentleman, even if the stories became mroe and mroe outrageous with every retelling, year after year!
