Justin Townes Earle's Gear
“I got tired of fans coming up and asking me what kind of guitar I was playing, and having to tell them it was a $6,000 guitar,” Earle says. “I wanted a working guitar, where I could tell people, ‘It’s under $1,000. And you can easily find one.’ So I just bought a Loar LO-16, and that’s what I’m playing. It’s a small-body guitar with a pickguard, similar to the Gibson L-00, and it’s loud. Really loud. It’s got a great balance, not too high and not too low, with a neck that’s wide without being super-wide. As far as playing goes, the string reaction is great, and there’s absolutely no delay. You strike the string and hear the note immediately.” -- From Acoustic Guitar Magazine September 2012
"The M1 gives me control like no other. The warmth of the transducers complements the magnetic pickup perfect. Soft and slow, or fast and dirty the M1 is clear as a bell." - Earle in an article on lrbaggs.com
In this picture Earle can be seen playing the RAJ-126.
You can find many videos of JTE with his Gibson Advanced Jumbo Reissue on YouTube from around the time Harlem River Blues came out. Such as the videos of him playing at CD Cellar in Anniston, Alabama.
According to L.R. Baggs's website Earle uses a M80 besides his M1 to pickup his acoustic guitars.
Justin Townes Earle is confirmed to use the Recording King Justin Townes Earle Signature RPS-JTE-TS guitar, as discussed in the YouTube video "The Story Behind The Justin Townes Earle Signature Guitar" by Haus of Gain. The video details the creation of this signature model specifically for the late artist, providing direct evidence of his association with this instrument.
