A really good synth
The delay effects sound fantastic and sometimes this synth shines like nothing else in my collection. It has character and I love most of all because of the saw waves, detune and unison mode. Just fat and warm sounding. Easy to use, even with just 1 fader and numerical buttons.

It is worth more than 250 bucks. There is a nice free VST editor for it too. I would grab it without a doubt.

I regret selling mine last year. There's a gritty quality to the delays and modulations that has a place even though it doesn't sound 'good' - and as you say, the early reflections on their own still hold up well today.

how does it compare to the Korg SDD type delay in your DW8000? The SDE was roland's direct competitior to the Korg delays the edge uses for guitar... but for some reason no one cares for the rolands, wondering why....

It is a totally different beast. The Korg is more lush in a way. Sorry, English is not my native language. The Roland has more balls and has a much wider palette. I´ll let you in on a little secret: The SDE-2000 is used alot on Alphavilles Forever young album from 1984. :-) The modulation is very cool and you can make lots of interesting tones with short delay times, phasy kind of effects.

hmmm, thanks, I was always eyeballing these but chickened out... stuck with the spx90, some alesis stuff, various TC units and a lexicon for many years before thinning the heard

Usefull rompler
Some good sounds in this module from the 80s. The strings sounds and choirs are great. Sounds similar to sounds used by New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle. This module is/was used by Pet Shop Boys.
The module is multitimbral and has 3 pairs of outputs. Very powerfull for its time.

No, I have not. I have never heard anything bad about E-mu products. I love their Emulator and Emax stuff :-)

love the Emax I and II! I recently bought a used Morpheus and its blowing me away for pads and tectures,,, you can do some pretty interesting long-decay, morphing percussion sounds in it too.... its a bear to program though, I can lose a whole weekend working on 1 patch that will be used in about 8 bars of music LOL

He he, I find its always a good thing if a musical machine can keep me sucked in for long periods of time. I understand its not the fastest to edit, but it keeps you engaged :-)

Underrated sampler
An awesome 80s 12-bit sampler with mulitple outputs, analog filters and sequencer. It is also a synth where you can draw your own waveforms, flexible envelopes, the possibility to connect a monitor and mouse makes it dead simple to use. And there is a quite fat sounding unison mode similar to the other Roland synths from that time like MKS-80, JX-8P.

I never see these working in person and I am suspicious of ebay and don't like to buy music technology I can't fix myself....

Well, I love it. I replaced the floppy drive with USB floppy emulator. Plus I bought a program for reading and writing floppy images on pc. Recently I added a video card which makes it possible to connect a standard vga pc monitor.
