I am interested in having a boost pedal for my setup, mostly for a lead sound that I can have to cut trhough the mix. I have an xotic SP compressor, would you reccomend getting a boost like an EP or one with an active EQ or what are your thoughts on using a compressor as a boost? I'm thinking maybe a nice mid boost would cut through better but I've also heard that compressors can help you cut through. Any thoughts appreciated

hahaYeah I like my little gadgets, the comp I mostly have for the volume difference ofpicking andstrumming. the drives do have their purposes too the dist I usE as a Marshall sound for the rock band I play in, thenI've got a Ts for bluesy/ lead stuff and then a liget drive/ boostmostly fortacking or to break up a clean amp, I could definitely only use one drive Pedal etc but I wouldn't really be able toget the sound i want

maybe the comp as well but i like to have an always on thing to control my dynamics

well its the same ammount of pedals, just a tiny board versus a small board. but i agree the jr is pretty small. My plan for pedals atm is tuner, comp, fuzz, dist, overdrive, light overdrive, modulation, delay, reverb
if i really tried i could get rid of the dist, an overdrive, and reverb but that would be a struggle

i've been thinking about re-arranging my board which is currently a classic pro, and selling a few pedals to make a smaller board. Mostly a practicality thing, I currently have a chopping board that i take to gigs/ rehersals and i want my whole board to come with me.
Idea 1 is to get a classic Jr, which is quite cheap, infact i would probably make a slight profit from selling the pedals that wouldn't be on the board. Only issue I have with this is it's still a decent size- not huge but still could be smaller
Idea 2 is to get a custom board (currently looking at a company called caseman- supporting the aussies across the ditch) which is basically metro 20 size but slanted so power supply etc could fit underneath. The plan would be to also have a couple of pedals under that I use less often (comp, plexi type drive, reverb) and then have a loop swicther controlling all the pedals (thinking Road Rage 8 Strip Looper). Benefits of this is the small board, and also having a loop siwtcher (could be handy if cable goes bad, and just seems to make pedals more of a tool than something to stress about in live scenarios), however the disadvantages is that it costs far more, just the board is probably about 3x times the cost of a pedaltrain classic jr, plus the looper which is $195USD+ shipping, and my main worry of having pedals underneath (the main point of this post and yet its taken this long to get to it ;)) Although I don't really like to change settings after soundcheck I feel as though it's nicer to have the ability to change them on the fly? DO you think the pedals underneath the board would be an issue? Is the extra price worth it for a smaller board and looper?
Thanks, Sorry for the long post btw :)

Crazy Tube Circuits Space Charged
upon looking around the Internet recently I stumbled upon a company called crazy tube circuits, and unsurprsingly they have a real tube overdrive. the demos make itsound insanely good which makes me really keen to buy , however I feel there must besome draw backs to tube pedals like do they warm up, should you replace your tube, and do youneed to bereally careful transporting it? any help is appreciated, particularly ifyou have an opunion onthe Pedal (I've not really ever heard an overdrive quite like it)
thankks

ah i watched that pedals shows video on them, seem to get very impressive tones from their hiwatt, a shame mine is only 5 watts compared to 100 ;)

no unfortunaly I'm a boy, its more common for woman to be called darcy but theres a few male darcys. thanks for the assiatcne, any idea where to get a good build your own boost from? i would have no idea where to start
7yover 7 years ago
haha well my name is actually Darcy but when i made this account eric clapton and mark knopfler were my favourite guitar players ;)

So your saying to build my own pedal? Sorry I'm a little lost, bascially where I'm is both pedals are going to cost me around $105USD, so what would you suggest?

Thanks for your help guys, I've tried the EP boost and it's not really my thing. I completly agree that buying a boost for the price of a walrus pedal is crazy but actually it's a bout $10 cheaper for me to buy the walrus from reverb

Hi there,
Looking at getting a nice clean boost with some EQ control. Interested in Walrus Audio Plainsman (which is discountiuned but pretty cheap from reverb) or MXR Microamp + (microamp with bass and treble contorls) Microamp has many reviews but plainsman very few. Any thoughts?
Thanks

will do, i've learnt that if possible try before you buy tends to be the best option

Ah, so more of a sound nice at home pedal rather than a live one?
7yover 7 years ago
Hi, I was listening to the demos of the new-ish Thorpy The Dane pedal and the drive side sounds okay, but the boost side sounds great because of that 'low' knob. Could an EQ achieve a similar effect to the low knob or is there some socerery in fattening up the sound?

From what I can tell, chorus and flanging is fairly similar in the way it is created. Wondering if a versatile flanger like the strymon orbit could do chorus sounds?

actually another question, whats the difference between the mxr analog chorus and the stereo chorus? the stereo is the yellow one but it sounds pretty similar..?
8yalmost 8 years ago
Ah that nakes sense, I was looking at the strymon deco the other day and coulndt understand how it could do so much but now that makes sense

cheers, but what is the difference between a bucket brigade chorus and a tri-chorus?

heres another cool one i just found for a similar price https://www.matthewseffects.com/products/the-chemist

Hi I'm looking at getting a chorus pedal and I've seen these two both around $200-250

Any thoughts? I'm thinking more chorus than vibrato so the tap tempo on the swindler doesn't seem like it would be that useful.

yeah i know what your saying, i dont have much stuff atm but it does seem aacumulate quickly...

Gilmourish stuff, I'm not really doing anything special I just really like cool gear ha! No I'm not recording or anything but I play out fairly regualrly
8yabout 8 years ago
Ha and crazily expensive! Well unless something changes it looks like I'll try to get my hands on something like the Stoned Hz because it's so versatile. Definitly keep Chase Bliss and Moog on my wishlist tho
8yabout 8 years ago
Just found this, may also be good? I've heard Moog are very good * https://www.moogmusic.com/products/moogerfoogers/mf-108m-cluster-flux
8yabout 8 years ago
Ah yeah I thought that might be the case, I'm sorta leaning toward the Stoned Hz then because it says its can do everything and from demos it seems to be able to do a lot. Only worry is there are so many dials etc it might become a hassle to quickly change...?
8yabout 8 years ago
I'm keen on a mod with tap tempo, love my MXR Uni-Vibe but really want tap tempo. Looking at Chase Bliss stuff (Wapred Vinyl and Wombtone) and the Stoned Hz by Crazy Tube Circuits. I can only justify one and I want vibey stuff as well as light chorus. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Hey I'm trying to decide what delay I want, I have a DD7 which is great but the tap tempo annoys me because I can't adjust it fast enough. I've narrowed it down to the Walrus Audio ARP-87 and the Free the tone Flight Time. Obviously the flight time is significantly more expensive but is it worth it? What do you guys think?
8yabout 8 years ago
Hey guys,
I'm trying to decide between these two delay pedals, any thoughts?
Thanks
8yabout 8 years ago
do you guys use it with reverb alone? im undecided if i should have two delays or just one. what do you guys do?
