Wow! Came across this guy recently and I'm very glad I did! Fantastic player and really nice tone. I know Jim isn't a fan of Supro but listen to this!

Fuzz pedals

I am looking at getting a fuzz pedal and I either want the JHS Muffelata or the EHX Green Russian, the issue is from what I can tell the JHS is much more versitlite as it emulates all the Big Muffs, but the EHX is alot cheaper. I don't know about fuzz so was wondering you guys' thoughts on the topic? Cheers!

Noise gate question

hey this is going to sound really dumb but I'm deciding between the Stone Deaf Fig Fumb and the JHS Muffelata. One pro of the fig fumb is the noise gate so i was wondering: does the noise gate only work on the fig fumb, or will it help all the pedals before it in the chain? thanks, sorry for the nooby question haha

Jazz amp

Jazz amp

Ah interesting thanks, also final question (touch wood) I was looking at the Fender Champ 40, is 40 watts of solid state enough to cut through? And how many watts of tube would you relasitilly need? 15, 20? Thanks alot

8yover 8 years ago

Jazz amp

These Fender Champs look quite good. Is 40 watts of solidstate enough?

Also the big band is 5 saxs, 3 trombones, 3 trumpets, keyboard, bass, drums and two guitarists (me and another guy)

Jazz amp

Hey Jim/ anyone else that knows a thing or two about jazz, what are your thoughts on this as an amp? Its well outside my price range, but it looks so cool it may be worth the extra save? What are your thoughts? https://suprousa.com/amplifiers/1622rt-tremo-verb/

And question two, I know solid state watts = tube watts, but around how many watts of each do you think is loud enough for big band? Obviously my 5 watt is too quiet, but would 15, 20, 25 be enough? Thanks a lot (happy new year as well guys)

Jazz amp

great thanks a lot, ill try to finnd a quilter somewhere to play

Jazz amp

Beause my current amp only has one speaker and that the main resason i want a new one

8yover 8 years ago

Jazz amp

Great thanks for the advice, just confirming do you think that the Quitler and 1x12 will really be loud enough for a big band? Thanks

8yover 8 years ago

Jazz amp

i could get ac15 actually not too expensive although your right it probably isnt the classic jazz sound

8yover 8 years ago

Jazz amp

i was just thiking the microblock into the bassbreaker or dv mark

8yover 8 years ago

Jazz amp

the bassbreaker is just the 1x12 cab

8yover 8 years ago

Jazz amp

great, thanks for the tips on the speakers. the bassbreaker is actually lighter than the dv mark probably because its a 1x12 rather than 2. the fender is made of birch plyand your right i couldnt foind the dv mark specs anywhere. the fender has a celestion speaker the dv mark has neodymium speakers. really imo the bassbreaker is a cheaper, lighter amp but its only 1x12, and the dv mark is a louder amp. i can also change the speakers over later. really what im asking is how important is 2x12? would a 1x12 have enough projection in a big band?

8yover 8 years ago

Jazz amp

Im not sure I could afford a 1x12 and 2x12 but here is a 2x12 if you dont think the bassbreaker is good https://www.rockshop.co.nz/shop/guitars/amplifiers/amp-cabinets/dv-mark-neoclassic-2x12-2x12-300w-lightweight-guitar-speaker-cab.html

8yover 8 years ago

Jazz amp

so do you think like a 1x10 speaker is loud enough for a big band? thats what the princetons have. interetsing with the quilter and its pretty cheap over here too! any knowledge on the DV Mark Jazz amps it looks like a 2x12 at a really good price?

Jazz amp

I should also add that it needs to be easy-ish to take to gigs (eg not too heavy)

Jazz amp

After you guys helped me out with my new guitar (which is great thanks BTW) I am know looking for a new amp as not all venues have them and my little Hiwatt is too quiet. I can spend anything between $500-1000USD for an amp that can play comfortably in a big band. Thanks!

Hey Americans, I am lucky enough to be flying over to you guys in January, and I thought while visting I would look through music shops. I want to find sorta like uncommon/ rare stuff, for instance over here, we consider Music Man rare. We are staying near Golden Gate park- any good suggestions by there? thanks alot

Sorry to keep bringing this up, I jst want to make sure I don't buy anything I regret. My jazz is going really well I'm in a couple of bands now, and really enjoying myself. After you guys advice from earlier these are the two guitars I'm looking at. I haven't tried out either of them yet, so I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on these.

Dream pedalboard

Impressive! Do you think that if I had a duel overdrive pedal, do you think I would need another drive? (eg should I have a duel drive pedal into another drive, or just have the duel drive)
