I own the 2007 version, wich is a bit poorly produced. The original pickups sound a bit muddy and not as clean as the pickups of former version. But what makes me love the guitar is the feel this piece produces as you play it. If you like single coils and clean/low gain sound you will not regret purchasing one, it´s great for spacier sounds too. Try some fx and you´ll see. :D
The Hamer Echotone is my first humbucker based guitar, so at first I considered the sound as dull due to the wider pickup range. Now after two months of playing I won´t give her out of my hands anymore. The versatility of this guitar is great. The three-way-switch system lets you choose between different voiced sounds. The neck-pickup provides a great clean but glassy jazz/blues tone. The middle position combines both pickups, with the separated tone and volume poti for each pickup you can easily shape the sound of the guitar. The bridge-pickup provides the most output of all possible pickup settings. If you switch to the bridge position you´ll get a nice bitey, more treble based tone wich still has enough bottom to make your 12-inch speaker breath. A great guitar for a wide range of playing styles. Combine it with your pedals and you´ll have a guitar that´ll serve you from jazz to heavy fx rock. For even harder sounds the pickups might not have enough output. It´s not a shredding machine, but a great produced guitar with a lot of clean sustain and a wide field of application possibilities. If you consider to buy an ES-style guitar, but you are looking for a cheaper alternative to the common brands with the same quality in production I recommend you the Hamer Echotone.
The 1x12 Inch, 15 watt, all valve combo from Carlsbro is my first all valve based amp. Previously I played a modeling amp with a digital amp simulation and a single valve preamp, but I always had the feeling to miss out the "real deal". After the first note I played on this amp I knew I`d get what I was searching for. The amp has a high and a low wattage channel. You can choose between the channels by plugging your guitar cable into the different input jacks. So far I only played the low wattage channel, but don´t be fooled by the 15 watts. With the gain and the master volume poti you can decide if you want to make your walls move with a rich clean tone or gritty overdriven sound. You won´t have the problem of not being present in a band. The three band eq bass/mid/treble lets you shape the sound in a subtle but effective way. For more clarity the amp provides a "bright" switch, that gives a nice treble boost. The inbuilt reverb is great, but not overwhelming. The fx loop will get the best out of your modeling pedals. In combination with a distortion or boost pedal you can take the Celestion greenback speaker to it´s full potential. This amp provides everything I need to get sounds from rich cleans to gritty low gain overdrives. For more punch I use a simple Tubescreamer clone. Even in combination with a Big Muff Pi/Fuzz you´ll still have defined and dynamic tones. I bought this amp used with lose potis, but after tighten them up everything stays where it has to be. For the price I can't complain about nothing. I don´t think about buying a different amp for the next couple of years.
