Andy Martin's Gear
The “Black Box” is one of many fuzz kits built by my dad or myself. This one is the “Boutique Late 60’s Fuzz” from GGG. It has a unique sound from a set of germanium transistors.
Not sure which models they are but one is a top hat style and the other tall and cylindrical. It sounds a bit more nasty and compressed than you’d expect a germ fuzz to sound. I place it in front of the wah to get that barfy fuzz wah tone, like Bowie era Ronson.
The Vox V847 reissue is from the 90’s and it’s had some heavy modding. It has a Fox Rox buffer installed, the same one in the Teese Wahs, to help widen the sweep and prevent the lame oscillation when a fuzz is placed after it. The Wah also had the inductor swapped with a Halo type and quite a few resistor and diode changes. Basically I like the classic vocal wah style with an extended high end sweep. I’m not interested in boosting bass.
My other main amp is a JTM45 clone from Metropolis that my Dad built. It too has had some small mods with tone cap and resistor changes. I love the tone of the KT66 tubes, very dynamic and bold. I always jump the two channels to get a little more low end out of it.

This fuzz pedal, celebrated for its rich, throaty tone and versatile tone control, is highlighted in the video for its ability to deliver both a thick, raw base tone at low gain and a searing lead tone at higher settings, making it ideal for various rock styles. The video provides an in-depth look at its capabilities, demonstrating why it’s a staple in Martin’s gear lineup.
Hey I'm Andy with ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com and today I'd like to introduce a revolutionary hum-canceling single coil from Mojotone, the Quiet Coil. Mojotone's new Quiet Coils are different from any other noiseless pickup you've heard. They are designed with one goal in mind, to sound, look and feel like classic single coils without the 60 cycle hum. Mojotone's pickup engineer, David Shepherd set out to achieve the perfect single coil tone by adhering to tried and true ingredients used in vintage pickups; heavy 42 gauge Formvar wire, fiberboard bobbins, cloth covered leads and essential Alnico magnets. The Quiet Coil is also the only hum-cancelling single coil to have a side by side coil design, rather than the stacked coil types from the likes of Dimarzio and Kinman. The pure single coil sound is also maintained without the use of active circuitry, PCBs or any other noise-cancelling circuitry that you've seen before. These are one of a kind pickups that are sure to change the mind of those who think sacrifices in tone have to be made to avoid hum. The pickups we're trying out today are the '58 Quiet Coils which amazingly stick to the same specs as genuine 50's single coils while eliminating the 60 cycle hum. You can also check out Mojotone's '67 Quiet Coils which contain the same sparkle and chime of the classic grey bottom pickups, complete with plain enamel and low gauss Alnico magnets. Best of all, you can find both in sets or in a preloaded pickguard for a fast swap into hum-free territory. Lastly, the unique design of the Quiet Coils ensures that you won't have to worry about string spacing issues, dead spots or the magnets pulling the strings out of tune. Quiet Coils never lose their focus with big bends and their vintage output is completely compatible with your favorite gear. What we're doing today is comparing the Quiet Coils with some of the leading hum-cancelling products as well as some genuine Fender 57/62 pickups as a baseline. All the Strats feature alder bodies with rosewood necks and the amp is a 6V6 based Mojotone Mt. Pilot 15w combo that will remain untouched during pickup swaps.

Hi, it's Andy from ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com and today we're harnessing the power of the Third Rail, by Function f(x). The Third Rail is a dual-channel overdrive pedal with a set of programmable footswitches to accomodate a variety of switching options. The heart and soul of the Third Rail is its dynamic NPN Transistor overdrive circuit, featuring two nearly identical drive circuits with different options on each. Channel 1 contains a Cut toggle, which is helpful for stacking both drives, as engaging both drives may add too much low-end. Channel 2 contains a Gain toggle, which switches between low and high gain, allowing for maximum stacking potential. Both channels feature a three-way Clip toggle which alters the way each channel reacts. The Third Rail's footswitch can be programmed between three modes, by holding down the left footswitch and cycling the modes with the right footswitch. Mode 1 lets players switch Channels 1 and 2 individually. Mode 2 lets players use one footswitch to toggle either 1 or 2. Mode three, the Third Rail mode, allows players to use a footswitch as a momentary switch that activates both channels at once for a blast of molten tone. Each Function f(x) pedal is hand-made in the USA with the best components money can buy.
