Jack Dangers' Gear
Wired: What tech are you using for the live show?
Dangers: The main program we're running live is Ableton Live. From sequencing midi lights to programming the robotic cameras running around the stage, Meat Beat Manifesto is more prone to the visual side of things than musical. Mark Pistel is running Live, and it changes from night to night, because with Live you can edit tracks each night. But it takes work. There's a track on the new record called "Children of Earth," for which I sampled audio from Voyager's Golden Record. I liked the part where they are announcing themselves using the different languages of the world, so I used the American. And I remember hearing it in the introduction to John Carpenter's Starman, and seeing that great visual of Voyager spinning in space. But we go through five different programs to the point we can play that stuff back.
