Janelle Monáe's Gear
Used during the Dirty Computer tour and seen in some of the new music videos, incl. "Make Me Feel".
Janelle Monae is seen performing on Day 1 of the 2009 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival on June 11, 2009 in Manchester, Tennessee with a Squier Precision bass. Photo by Tim Mosenfelder from Getty Images.
In this video from Ohma's Instagram page, they discuss Janelle Monae and ACLU's custom microphone from their company, and the process from its creation to its use in the LA Pride Parade in 2023. There's a section in the video that shows the frame of the inside of the mic and a translucent screen when the mic is fully completed that show it's the condenser version of the microphone, rather than the ribbon.
During a surprise guest appearance with PinkPantheress at Coachella 2026, Janelle Monáe used a Red Monkey 2" Classic Guitar Strap, as seen in a Getty Images photograph from the event. The strap, custom-made with white Italian leather and black pyramid studs in a checkerboard pattern, complemented her stage costume.
