Kurt Cobain's Gear
According to Alex Roberts on "Live Nirvana | Equipment Guide | Pat Smear," Kurt Cobain owned a Mosrite The Ventures Model Mark V in blue, which he acquired in 1992 while living with Courtney Love in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, a burst water pipe caused substantial damage to his belongings, including this guitar, which suffered severe water damage to the knobs and rusted electric controls. Despite the damage, the guitar was played by "Big" John Duncan on July 23, 1993, at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City for four songs: "Drain You," "Tourette's," "Aneurysm," and "Very Ape." Later, on September 25, 1993, Pat Smear played this guitar on Saturday Night Live after the band declined a Charvel Stratocaster for being "too metal" and opted to use the Mosrite instead.
A photo of kurt with his jag-stang is seen to have an guitar center strap and been researched over and over to make sure it was the right one
According to the image taken from Aaron Rash, earnie bailey claims that Kurt's univox hi-flier custom had a Dimarzio super 2 in the bridge position instead of a seymour duncan JB (screenshot taken from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuMyifhHAQQ&t=467s)
In this photo Cobain can be seen with a Japanese-Made 1991 Fender Stratocaster. K-Serial Number. It has undergone many Neck changes over time (in this photo shows the original Fender neck) which than by October 1991 had a Fernandes Strat Neck installed (which was also made in the Fejigen Factory in Japan same Factory that makes Fender Japan Guitars) This Guitar was later destroyed while preforming Live at the Paramount in 1991 while preforming the song "Endless Nameless" (During which at 0:59 the Fernandes Headstock can be seen). The Next time the "Vandalism" Stratocaster was seen was at the 11/25/1991 Paradiso, Amsterdam NL show which now had a Kramer Neck installed on it, it was used until 12/07/1991 when this guitar was destroyed....and Never used again.... (Sometime in 1992 Kurt's guitar Tech Earnie Bailey added a New Fender Neck to the body but Kurt never used it again) it Now sits in a Unidentified Secret Storage Facility in Seattle WA.
Cobain used a C.F. Martin & Company D-18E Acoustic Guitar on Nirvana's career defining preformance on MTV Unplugged Live, as see in this photo of Cobain performing. This information is originally sourced from the official Martin website's "Famous Martin Owners" section.
This Guitar was later put up for auction on June 20, 2020 and sold for a record $6 Million U.S. Dollars, making it the most expensive guitar of all time.
