Mark uses custom made basses from Dallas, TX guitar/bass builder Rob Bridges (Brimstone Guitars). The first one, Gran Toro (prototype version), is a black, bound body 4-string, jazz bass shaped neck, maple fretboard. Bass is outfitted with the DiMarzio Will Power Pbass pickup in the front and a Klein Pickups MusicMan pickup at the bridge. Hipshot tuners with a D-Tuner.

Mark used a Fender Classic 50's Precision bass that he refinished himself. It is natural wood, with a maple neck, DiMarzio Split-P pickup (added 2015) and Hipshot Bridge (added 2015). He used it during the Light Me Up era tour (2010-2012) and on the Vans Warped Tour in 2010. He had it altered in February of 2013 (at Ralph's House of Tone in Dover, NH in ) to be strung BEAD and is now only used rarely on low-tuned songs.

"I refinished this one myself about two years ago. Nothing like showing your P bass some TLC!" Facebook comment 12/20/2011

The Brimstone Gran Toro version 2.0 has the DiMarzio Will Power pickup in the neck position and dual DiMarzio Model J pickups in the bridge position. Neck is a Precision profile instead of the Jazz profile on the prototype. Bridge and Tuners (including the Bass Xtender D-tuner) are from Hipshot Products. Mark began using this bass at the beginning of the "Who You Selling For" tour rehearsals during the summer of 2016 and on the road as well, replacing his original Gran Toro prototype.

This is Mark Damon’s converted bass for low tuning

I am often asked how I feel about 5-string basses. To be honest, I’ve never found a 5-string bass that felt “right”. Either the neck feels too wide, the string spacing too narrow or a combination of the two.

To solve the issue and fill the need for a true low-tuned bass, I converted this 2021 @fender American Pro II to be strung BEAD. This update to the American Pro series has a couple minor, but nice, upgrades…first off they created a sculpted neck heel to allow more comfortable access to the upper frets and the neck now has rolled fingerboard edges. Really comfortable to play! Otherwise, it has the same features as the original American Pro series…Hi-mass vintage bridge, graphite truss rods, tapered tuning shafts, etc. If it ain’t broken….

I swapped in some @dimarzioinc Relentless precision pickups (just like I did on my other AM Pro Precision). Massive low end and midrange growl with a distortion pedal that cuts through everything! Strung thru-body with @ghsstrings Round Core Bass Boomers (medium set with a 130 low B)

I use this bass on “Death By Rock and Roll” for our live show. We’ve been opening our set with that recently and it’s a great feeling busting into that riff on this bass when the lights hit!
