Orange: What’s your experience with Orange and current Orange amp?

Pickle: I remember that a bassist friend who I idolized had taken me to the NAMM show in like 2011 or 2012, and we were so excited about visiting the Orange booth together. The reps were so nice, they let us hang around playing all the various amps and cabs on display there, and he ended up buying a Terror Bass 1000w bass head that we were both so giddy about. Ever since then, I’ve been a fan of Orange. Obviously, you see all these long-haired metal dudes shredding through Orange amps on these giant stages, and I’m like… ME FUCKIN’ TOO, DUDES! Now my Terror Bass comes with me almost everywhere. It’s my secret weapon.

“I first fell in love with Orange amps back around 2013 from wanking around with one at the NAMM show. For me, the holy grail was the tiny little 1000-watt Terror Bass head. I mean… A THOUSAND WATTS?! Are you kidding?! Whenever I walk into a venue with my cute little purse-sized Orange bass amp and tell the sound engineer that it’s A THOUSAND WATTS, they drop their jaws. Like yeah, I said a thousand watts – obviously I didn’t come here to fuck around.

Haha! I’ve been bringing one on the road with me every tour for the past several years now in my band Frankie and the Witch Fingers. It’s been a total life-saver several times for me (and for some of our opening bands), and it sounds like a real motherfucker through my 4 x 12″ Fender pyramid bass cab. It’s a hybrid-style amp which means it’s solid state with a tube preamp. I really like knowing I’ve got tube power working for me, and I’m able to overdrive it in the way that I like to get that bit of growl when I want to dig in. It’s also switchable from 4ohms to 8ohms which has been crucial when I’ve had to switch out speaker cabs unexpectedly on the road.” – Nikki Pickle

I added a new bass to the arsenal. Am I a Gibson player now? I don’t know yet. I still love my 70’s Univox basses so SO much, but I decided I needed to try playing a modern, precision instrument without all the little quirks that vintage instruments tend to come with. Thank you @brokenguitars for always making all my instruments sound fucking stellar, though.

Anyone have any thoughts on SG basses and alternate pickup options? I’d like to growl so hard that everyone in the crowd immediately shits their pants. Thanks in advance for any tips.
