"I bought this off Nathan Sudders of The Whip, who also played with Guy [Garvey] on Courting The Squall. It’s on every track on Little Fictions. It’s a really nice, short-scale bass – totally playable. This was the first time I’d used it: on previous albums, the bass you hear is a Fender Jazz. It worked brilliantly for ‘Magnificent (She Says)’, really delivering the sound we all wanted on the bottom end of that tune. It helps that it looks cool as well. I’d like to work it into more of the older stuff and see how it delivers live on those tracks."

"Pete Turner handles the bass duties for the band and when they went into Blueprint Studios to start recording the new album [Build a Rocket Boys!], Mark suggested that Pete give MESA bass gear a try. A big Block 750 fit the bill for a tryout and the amp hit the mark right away."

Interviewer: Your bio mentions that you built a mini-studio at every venue while touring. Can you tell us about the gear and how having a studio on the road influenced the songwriting?

Turner: It was really just a Pro Tools rig, basically a laptop and an mBox. We’d all turn up into the dressing rooms and you’d have a drum-kit, a bass amp, and a guitar amp. The idea was just to get barebones of songs so that when we finished on the road we’d have a few ideas that we could start with.
