Rob Rolfe

"Back in August 2017, Rob Rolfe of Enter Shikari visited North Custom Drums in Lancashire UK to discuss a kit build in collaboration with Truth Custom Drums.

Rob wanted to create a Unique sound for the tour and Andy and Rob decided on the following Shell make up for his new kit.

10x8: The reason for this shell make up was to create more punch from the toms as Birch is quite dry and punchy but the maple keeps the warmth and attack so doesn't pull too far away from the Shikari. In fact it amplifies their sound.

14x14: The Mahogany in the Floor tom was decided by Andy to give the drum a lower tone, to match a similar sound of a 16" floor but would also be comfortable for Rob to play.

20x20: The Maple/Mahogany/Maple Bass drum was decided with the goal to give the bass drum that maple attack and presence. But with it being a slightly thicker shell the Mahogany brings the tone down and softens the kick giving a fuller, fatter yet pronounced sound.

13x7: This is the same reason we did the 13x7 snare as a Maple/Mahogany/Maple. Rob wanted a lower sounding snare drum but still the characteristics of what he was use to. After years of using a 13" snare, it was the only solution we could come to without up-sizing the snare and it works and sounds perfectly. Finally the 10x6 13 ply Birch snare, Rob just wanted a dry, crack, loud side snare, and Birch was my first and only choice for the sound he wanted"
