Rupert Turner's Amplifiers
This is a video by Laney Amplification called Laney Live - Rupert Turner from Palace and his Lionheart L20T-212. It was uploaded on February 26, 2019.
This video is about Rupert Turner from Palace and his Laney Lionheart L20T-212 guitar amplifier. Rupert talks about his tour manager had some Laney amps and they tried this one and it was exactly what he was looking for, gave him more of a "clean, driven tone" that his other amp didn't quite accomplish. He describes the sound as being more beefy and tightened up some washiness. He had found it hard to previously find a clean yet powerful sound that doesn't break up too quickly.
Being that Palace is a "reverb-obsessed" band, Rupert also talks about the digital reverb on the amplifier, and how it is very good at adding a subtle amount of reverb to his sound (being digital it's separate from the preamp).
Rupert says he was surprised that it was only a 20W amp, expecting to be more like 50W considering how powerful it sounds. He talks about the two different speakers in the amplifier, and how they allow him to get a variety of different tones when recording, the vintage-y side being his favorite.
He sets the Tone knob at 11 o'clock, and mentions the EQ is very responsive to brighten or darken the sound. He uses humbucker guitars, and it helps to be able to brighten the sound of the amp using the EQ.
In the video Palace's Rupert Tuner - GEAR MASTERS Ep. 468, around 5:50 Rupert Tuner talks about his Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb amp.
Actually, back home, I don't have one of these. I've got a Fender Deville, but... I can choose what I want so I got the Deluxe Reverb which is much nicer. This one is super treble-y so I've actually taken the treble right off down to about 4, and I have the bass on full which you would think it would sound awful but it kind of works. Then I have a tiny bit or reverb just like 2-3, and [speed and intensity] are off I don't use them.
