Sounds great

Great sounding synth if you want that DX FM sound. I have a Yamaha Reface DX which is capable of pretty much all the same sounds, so I don't have much need for this software, but if you prefer software, or don't have the space this is a great sounding synth. If you have the money, and the space I recommend going with the Reface DX.

Why do you recommend the Reface over Arturia's software version? Personal preference, or is there something special about the way it sounds? With Arturia's software, I can load 40 year old DX-7 patches and use as many instances at once as my computer can handle, 2 things the Reface can't do. Both are 100% digital/DSP-based, so it's not like there's any analog mojo to worry about.

Yeah its personal preference. I simply prefer having the hardware. I think Yamahas Reface line is excellent, and the DX was the first synth I bought, so it has sentimental value to me. Sound wise both are pretty much identical. I am thinking about getting the Arturia V collection, as I am enjoying the demos that I have tried, Especially of the Fairlight. Have you tried any of Arturia's other software synths ? Cheers !

I'm really fond of the Reface synths too. I think all of them are a steal for what you get, quality-wise. I've been using Arturia soft synths since about 2005. They were the best emulations on the market when they came out, then they fell behind for a bit, and now they're roaring back to prominence, especially now that they're not 100% focused on analog emulations. Their Fairlight emulation is great. I've demoed it extensively. I haven't tried any of their analog synth emulations in years, but I suspect they've upped their game across the board on that front. If you like even half of the analog emulations they offer, then US$500 for the V collection is an incredible deal.

Truly amazing sounds !!

As much as I love analog synthesizers, and just hardware synths in general, I think this is my favorite sounding synthesizer. The sounds are mind blowing, and its just an awesome wavetable software synth. I usually shy away from using software but this is another level of awesomeness that I could not resist. For pure analog bliss I would have to say the Oberheim OB-XA, and the Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 are the two greatest sounding analog synthesizers of all time, with the Minimoog coming in right after. As for digital synthesizers I think the PPG Wave, and the Roland D-50 are the greatest of all time, with the Yamaha DX7 coming in third place. Waldorf offers a free 30 day trial of this synthesizer so try it out and see what you think. The PPG sound isn't for everyone, but I personally love it. PPG purists may not be that excited, but for the vast majority of enthusiasts who don't have 10 to $20,000 lying around for the genuine article, this will do just fine. Thank you Waldorf for this great synthesizer, and the biggest thanks to Wolfgang Palm for creating the PPG wave, and Wavetable Synthesis.

Amazing !!

This is such a great synthesizer !! Has all the classic D-50 presets, as well as all the soundcards built in !! One of the best boutiques, as it is a digital synth replicating the sound of a digital synth, apposed to a digital synth replicating an analog synth, so the sounds are pretty much identical to the actual D-50.
