Sounds great
Great sounding synth if you want that DX FM sound. I have a Yamaha Reface DX which is capable of pretty much all the same sounds, so I don't have much need for this software, but if you prefer software, or don't have the space this is a great sounding synth. If you have the money, and the space I recommend going with the Reface DX.

Why do you recommend the Reface over Arturia's software version? Personal preference, or is there something special about the way it sounds? With Arturia's software, I can load 40 year old DX-7 patches and use as many instances at once as my computer can handle, 2 things the Reface can't do. Both are 100% digital/DSP-based, so it's not like there's any analog mojo to worry about.

Yeah its personal preference. I simply prefer having the hardware. I think Yamahas Reface line is excellent, and the DX was the first synth I bought, so it has sentimental value to me. Sound wise both are pretty much identical. I am thinking about getting the Arturia V collection, as I am enjoying the demos that I have tried, Especially of the Fairlight. Have you tried any of Arturia's other software synths ? Cheers !

I'm really fond of the Reface synths too. I think all of them are a steal for what you get, quality-wise. I've been using Arturia soft synths since about 2005. They were the best emulations on the market when they came out, then they fell behind for a bit, and now they're roaring back to prominence, especially now that they're not 100% focused on analog emulations. Their Fairlight emulation is great. I've demoed it extensively. I haven't tried any of their analog synth emulations in years, but I suspect they've upped their game across the board on that front. If you like even half of the analog emulations they offer, then US$500 for the V collection is an incredible deal.

This isn't just a DX7, it's a DX1 too.
Load up 2 instances of this into your DAW and you will practically have a DX1 to play with. Try it with Fireflies on one and Warm Strings on the other. For the real feel, just add a StudioLogic SL73 or other hammer-action 73-key MIDI controller.
