This is my girlfriend, and she’s as bright or as nasty as I want her to be, without needing a bunch of digital processing effects. Especially with the right pickups. My go-to tele has a humbucker (wired upside down) in the neck position, and a 60’s vintage tele bridge pickup. She stays tuned in open G tuning. Fantastic rock, blues and slide axe.
It’s all Fender original equipment. Standard tuning. Used primarily as my rhythm electric, and as my lead guitar for Country (pre ‘80’s because Nashville pop country sucks!!!), Americana, Ameripolitan, or anything else that calls for twang.
‘73 SG. This is my Open A tuning slide guitar. All Gibson except neck humbucker is wired upside down.
Sweetest sound that will ever strike your ears. Dad bought it with his mustering out pay after WW II, and played live and recorded with it on Starday Records in the late ‘40’s & 50’s. This is the guitar I learned to play on as a youth in the ‘60’s. Dad gifted “Sweetheart” to me about 10 years ago. She’s a honey!
Great full bodied sound and resonance from this beauty. Great for performances when you’re playing with the guitar not mic’d up, and acoustic jamming (guitar pulls).
Sounds near identical to my Gibson Hummingbird, but not too expensive to jam around the campfire with. Very nice guitar and was a great value when I bought it 20 yrs ago. Standard tuning with light gauge strings and a low setup for easy fretting.
For those of us not named Roger McGuinn, a 12-string is something we only use when playing a Byrds song, or maybe Hotel California by the Eagles. I’ve owned two Martin 12-Strings that sounded great and played tough. This Ovation sounds good (doesn’t ring like a Martin) but plays incredibly easy for a 12-string.
Q: What do you say when a bass player knocks on your door? A: How much for the pizza.
The first bass gig I ever played was using a borrowed Fender Precision and Marshall bass amp, so I figured I better pick up a used bass and amp. The first good deal I found on a used bass guitar was a Fender Precision, and I bought it. That was 40 years ago. Some guitars are like fancy semi-automatic pistols that can be finicky. The Fender Precision Bass is like a revolver. No matter how old and dirty it is, when you pull the trigger it’s gonna go bang. I haven’t played it in over a year, and the strings are 5+ yrs old, and I guarantee you I can pull it out of the locker and plug it in to my bass amp, and it will be in tune and play as free and easy as any bass ever built. For blues, rock, country, R&B, and every other genre other than jazz, funk or metal, a Fender Precision Bass will serve you as well or better than any other electrified bass guitar you’ll find.
