Greet from Indonesia

Seems nice to live there! Hometown of John (of Hall & Oates) and Jaco Pastorius right? Sadly, most of people here, in Jakarta pretending to be someone else :(

What was your first instrument purchase?

My 1st instrument was an acoustic brunswick guitar (I don't remember anything about the guitar, it's already broke almost 10 years ago). My dad bought it for me.

My 1st real instrument was a Rockwell (local, Indonesian brand) bass guitar, RB-32 series with J-Bass PU. Made 2009, my late grandpa gave me as a present for my 17th birthday on 2010. It's definitely not a great bass, but I'll always keep it with me no matter what happen for an emotional reason.

My 1st purchase with my own money was my 2004 MIJ Fender Precision Bass Sting Signature. It's a secondhand and not on the great condition (especially with the PU wnd the bridge) but, it's still gave me a goosebumps I met her for the 1st time.

How to get this sound? - Post here to get ideas on how your favourite band gets their sound.

No man, I really appreciate that. In my country (Indonesia) usually people with your experience doesn't want to share their knowledge. Not every person of course, but almost everyone

R.I.P David Bowie

Honestly I'm not a huge fan of him. But I always listen to his Space Oddity everytime I need a courage. He is really a great performer (based on youtube, I never go to his concert, sadly)

Bass Big Muff or Nano Bass Big Muff?

I'm not finding the full muff yet in my town, but already played the nano. I can't compare it yet as I don't play the full muff. Thanks for the advice :)

What's Your Dream Band Line-Up?

Not really honestly. I'm not a fan of his guitar playing, but a HUGE fan of his vocal. He wrote a lot of good stuff and done a lot of great covers. I think he's underrated just because Stereophonics not selling well (idk in your country, but yes here in Indonesia). I'm glad you like his new album btw :D

Bass Big Muff or Nano Bass Big Muff?

in a word? size....

now for a long-winded response if "size" didn't cut it for you: to the best of my knowledge (which is extensive) the only difference is a smaller PCB and Hammond-style enclosure... the bass big muff is heavily based on the 80s/90s Russian muffs that are voiced to be a little fatter in the lows. Bassists pay big money for those older Russian muffs now. They suit the bass very well... but the sound is easy to replicate with commonly available components as its not so different from any other muff apart from a few resistor and capacitor value tweaks... for my buck I would get a nano, there is no good reason for a big muff to be housed in a huge enclosure other than tradition. I've owned a couple Russian muffs of various vintages and they sound very much like a big muff. If you like that sound then any variant can work, especially if you have nothing to compare it to in person. Side by side they can all be set to sound very similar, but Russian ones and bass branded ones will definitely produce more lows without having to turn the tone control as far down, leaving you with more treble than an American guitar muff will produce when set to flatter a bass.

Thanks mate

Favorite bassist? and most overrated band?

My favorite bassist are: Duff (GnR), Tetsuya (L'arc~en~Ciel), Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big), Bill Black (Elvis Presley), John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin).

Most overrated band? Greenday, arctic monkeys, some new band (or boy band) like 5 seconds of summer or something like that

Hey guys, I'm new here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUwhutKZAEk

I'd like to know how to get mute sound like Jack did there. Did ye used a pedal? If he used a pedal, what pedal he used? Or any pedal who could replicate that sound? Honestly, I'm a fan of mute bass sound like what Bill Black did here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9BLw4W5KU8 I know he used an upright bass and there's no way a bass guitar could replicate the sound. But, is there any chance by using pedal or technique to get that sound? Sorry for my bad english btw. Thanks guys
