Value Gibson RD Artist

Yeah, I also think that.

The one from the 70s has a serial number. I've heard some of the reissues didn't sell well, so Gibson cut down the prices and partially sold some for 700$

Value Gibson RD Artist

Hi there,

I was wondering about the value of the Gibson RD Artist from the 70s (with the Moog electronics) and the reissues. I found two for sale in France; a 70s one for 700 Euros (823$) and a reissue from 2012 for 650 Euros (764$).

I thought these guitars had a much higher value, according to Reverb.com up to 2500 Euros / 2500$

What do you think?

Thanks & Greetings Yann

String isn't amplified correctly on Squier Strat Classic Vibe 60s

Hey there,

a friend of mine has lend me his Squier Strat Classic vibe 60s. It has been sitting around for 5 years (he stopped playing guitar). One thing that I remarqued instantly was that one of the strings wasn't amplified correctly with the middle pickup (G string). It sounded like it was deaden, and only on the middle pickup. This problem occured with older strings and also with new strings (I restrang the guitar with fresh d'addario). Also, the pickups in general are buzzing a lot (even for a single coil guitar), and doesn't like distortion (it sounds pretty weawith some distortion). So I'm thinking there might be an electrical issue somewhere. What do you think? Ever had / heard about a similar problem?

Thanks for helping Greetings Yann

Classic Marshall Tones at small volume

Haha I know this was coming ... :-) I'm conscient that Page used/uses a lot of different gear; the tone I was refering to was his TSRTS tone, were he used Marshalls.

Supros are superb; had the chance to try one out; great tone. Sadly, they are very expensive ... I also agree with the fact that Pages Hiwatt period was the best one. The live at the Royal Albert Hall is a masterpiece; "C'mon Everybody" and "Bring it on home" are the 2 songs which make me start playing guitar .

I also quite like the Celebration Day tones. I've read somethere that he only used 2 Orange AD amps, the rest was show off

I eman, I got the 1st ac30 as a beatles guy, but I have almost NEVER copped a beatles tone from it except in jest, I actually tend to play my voxes at above 5 on the volume and favor the normal channel over the top boost, I embraced them because they do MY sound, not because I could get my hero's sound... though I admit I own a brain may treble boost and sometimes get my Queen on when no one is around to hear it Who doesn't want to sound like his guitar hero? Especially for persons who started playing guitar recently, they only play songs from bands and not their own (well that's my case; two years since I picked up a guitar and I still paly music from other persons)

sorry, I am totally rambling at you today... I have a cold and can't get my thoughts straight Not a problem! I wish you a speedy recovery.

anyway, maybe buy yourself one of those little JTM1s, they soud good in their own right and have righteous crunch at bedroom level Well I'll see if I can try one out somewhere before paying 500e.

Classic Marshall Tones at small volume

Yes; everything after the JCM 800 is not really what I'm searching. The new Marshall combos are too specific. DSL is, as already said, to modern and the MG is junk (a friend of mine got an older one and it ages pretty badly). Speaking of modern amps; have you ever tried the Haze series ?

work with what you have and be yourself.... when I was collecting old amrshalls years ago I stumbled on a 62 ac30 for a reasonable price and vox has defined my sound ever since... I wasn't thinking it would replace the marshalls in my affection, I just got it because I'm a beatles fan and it was more of a piece of memorabilia for me at the time.... but after bonding with it I went on to buy vox after vox and currently own 3 ac30s and NO marshalls

Ok great! I really like Vox a well; got one of these little Pathfinders (I know, can't compare them to AC30s) and I'm pretty happy with them. But the point is as you beeing a Beatles fan, I'm more a Zep / Jeff Beck / Free / Deep Purple fan. And their distortion is mainly coming from Marshall amps. And the Marshall tone is different to the Vox or Orange tone.

I've checked out the traynor amps. The problem with older amps is that you can't find them anymore.

Classic Marshall Tones at small volume

Thanks for the reply!

I've heard about the DSL, but it's more focused on modern tones.

I'm a bit perplex about the third solution. These are high quality pedals; my amp is rather cheap. I'm not sure if it will sound as good.

If I could, I would go JTM or Super Lead; sadly I haven't got the money and the space. How loud are these things with attenuators btw?

No, I didn't know Matchless Amps and haven't tried some (there is only one dealer in Germany). Are they Plexi / Marshall clones of some sort?

Classic Marshall Tones at small volume

Hey guys,

I really like (older) Marshall tones (Bluesbreaker / JTM45 / Plexi) and wanted to upgrade my rig to reach some of these tones.

The big problem is that I'm living in a student residence with pretty thin walls and the only time I find to play guitar is pretty late in the night.

The first solution is to change my amp. I'm currently on an Orange CR12 and the marshall equivalent at this time is the MG something, which, let's admit, does not sound pretty good. I've done a little bit of research; and found some cool little amps, like the Marshall Class 5 and the 1 watters serie Marshall did for their 50th anniversary (JMP1; JTM1, etc). Sadly; they are no longuer produced so I can't try them out, and apparently they are (especially the C5) too loud for playing at home.

The second solution would be to swap to a CODE amp. But I'm not a big friend of digital amps; and there are not a lot of critics out there so it's pretty difficult to get an opinion.

The third solution would be to get a good OD pedal (I was thinking about a Catalinbread DLS or a Wampler Plexidrive) and to stick it in front of my current amp.

The last solution would be to get a house, and that's definitivelly not possible :-)

What do you think? ANy other suggestions?

Thanks for helping! Greetings Yann

Tabbing Help

Hi!

I'm trying to Tab Jeff Becks Version of Stratus (link below) and I'm blocked at one chord he's playing constantly during the song. It's the one he plays between 1min49s and 1min55s.

https://youtu.be/Ia-gJbxLWMo?t=1m49s

I've tried a lot of combinations, but everyone sounds false and wrong. Is it a simple chord sounding differently because of the effects?

Thanks for helping me out

Greetings ~Yann

Harley Benton Building Kit

Ok, that's a way of thinking. But I think these kits are not made to create a great guitar, and also aren't a great basis to create a great guitar but more to see how it's made; how it works and especially try to build it yourself will make you think "yeah, I did that!" In my case, I like assembling and building things (we are a woodworker family). So I think if I assemble one, it won't be great, but for 80 euros, how can I go wrong? I just want a second guitar to experiment with different tunings, without having to retune it always into standart to play most of my repertory.

Or as you said, a solution is to assemble a real fender, but that's much more than the 80e of the Benton kit.

Thanks for your reply. I've checked Carvin; they look great but as you said, they're not cheap.

Ok, thanks for letting me know! I didn't knew Thomann had a guitar brand :-)

Harley Benton Building Kit

Hi!

I'm searching a second guitar; hasn't got to be very expensive (not more than 300e). Already having a Les Paul, I'ld like something single coiled to get near of Gilmours / Beck / Claptons Tone. I went on Thomann (.de) and found out that their most sold guitar is a Telecaster Kit to build yourself, by Harley Benton. There is also a Strat and Les paul styled guitar.

Has anyone of you ever tried these kits (I can't find informations or an official site for Harley Benton) or tried Harley Benton in general ? What's another alternate to Squier for a single coiled guitar in the same price range?

Thanks !

Greetings Yann

2 Guitars in one amp?

Oh yes that's a great idea as well! Do you conect them simply by splitting in 2 the jack cable out of the guitar thanks to a Y adapter? And which one should I combine (as long as they're not all at the same place)?

2 Guitars in one amp?

Thanks! ok, well , I use small modeling / solid state amps , at home; all combos, so I'm not using cabs as such

2 Guitars in one amp?

Ok thanks for the reply! No my amps do not have 2 inputs, neither channels. They are small solid state or modeling 10W amps I use to play at home.

2 Guitars in one amp?

Hi,

Is it safe to plug in 2 (or more) guitars in one amp? I would like to jam along with friends without having to transport an amp.

Is a Y jack enough to complete the job? And if I'm playing alone, can I use it as an input to connect my ipod to (my amps do not habe an aux. input)?

Thanks a lot Greetings

I totally agree with Royal Blood. These guys are awesome!

Favorite bassist? and most overrated band?

He's done much more to Led Zep and music in general than a lot of person could have imagine. For a lot of people (not as hardcore fan as me), he's simply a bassist. http://www.pastemagazine.com/blogs/lists/2011/10/20-underrated-bass-guitarists-in-popular-music.html?p=2

Cheap Little Tube Amps

I think I have the right to ask for advices. I'm sort of new in this world. and I never said I had a budget of over 300e. And for 100 euros (orange amp) I don't think it is overpaid. AND I was asking if it is better to invest in a little tube amp or a bigger (20W+) transistor amp. Oh Btw: http://www.rock-gear.de/Gitarre/Verstaerker/Vollroehrentopteile/Hiwatt-Tube-Serie-T10-HD-Top.html?&campaign=gshopping-de&gclid=COLr6abU3skCFUbmwgodreYDcQ

Well that's the point. He's a legend; but all my friends who are a little bit into music do not know him and his great musical achievements. And it's sad

A very underrated bassist : John Paul Jones; Led Zeppelin, Them Crooked Vultures

10yover 10 years ago

How to get this sound? - Post here to get ideas on how your favourite band gets their sound.

Hi I started to play guitar because of Kashmir by Led Zeppelin. It's one of the few songs I can play entirely. But I can't get the sound. I've searched around the internet; and no one could really figure it out. It's not a very overdriven sound. Thanks for helping !

Cheap Little Tube Amps

Yes, 1 watt is a lot. My sister had in mind to buy a 100W Marshall once for playing at home ... Waht about Hiwatt? It would be perfect for what I play (Zep and Floyd), but I heard the small one are not particulary good...

Cheap Little Tube Amps

What about the Blackstar HT1?

10yover 10 years ago

Cheap Little Tube Amps

Ok thanks. The blackstar is a little bit too expensive, such as the marshall. And the micro terror sounds really great from what I heard in a shop ones. I've heard that bugera has a "bad" reputation. Have you tried or hear somlething about the Yamaha THR5?

Cheap Little Tube Amps

I'll maybe refine my criterias a little bit. What (cheap) tube head can you recommend ? My budget would be 250/300 euros max.

I was thinking about building a cab myself or convert my actual combo (Orange crush 12) into a cab. These little tube amps sounds great; and it is more than enough for me at least now. And it would be for playing at home.

The ac4 is great, but I was more thinking about an Orange micro terror or even a Hiwatt T10.

Opinion about the Danelectro DC59

Thanks for the reply. I've read somewhere the chinese one (2007 reissue) are better than the korean ones because a lot of things were updated (tuners; bridge; jack output etc). What about the new ones you can buy on danelectro.com ? Are these the same as the 2007 reissue ? How can I make the difference between a korean, chinese and/or newer one? Thanks a lot

Cheap Little Tube Amps

Hi again,

Is it worth investing in a little tube amp (like the Orange Micro Terror) or in a larger 'non-tube' amp?

I'm currently playing on a Crush 12W Orange amp.

Thanks!

Opinion about the Danelectro DC59

Hi again,

I’m interested about the Danelectro DC59. It’s a guitar I would like to play / own one day in the near future. It can be a new or used one. My problem is about the age of the guitar. I’ve read somewhere that the 90s Danelectros (the cheapest ones) are in fact no real Danelectro made in Asia. I’ve also heard it was a joke guitar, made out of cardboard. Had anyone of you any experience with Danelectros? Is it worth it? And what model / serie is the ‘best’ one?

Thanks for helping

Greetings

Vibrato/Whammy Bar on Epiphone Les Paul

I've also seen this one, but it looks quite scary to fix and the size is a bit enormous

Vibrato/Whammy Bar on Epiphone Les Paul

Yes , I understand perfectly what you say. The thing is it's my first electric guitar; I started playing on electric a year ago or so; so I'm quite new in this world. It's clear that investing in a tremolo is an investement; in my case not very intelligent if I leave it on that guitar. That's why a Vibramate kit or a stetsbar would be perfect; when I change guitar one day I can keep the tremolo. Otherwise, I'm happy with the sound of my LP; I do not have something to compare it to; apart the affinity Telecaster of my sister; which sounds not particulary good.
