Green Day – 21st Century Breakdown

"The J-180 is a fantastic live guitar. You know people say that the extra pick guard kind of dampens the tone and so forth, but I think for live it's great. And also I think the Everly Brother's dad designed the bridge with the strings, which barely break over that bridge. That means you never have to worry about strings breaking. It's a very nice guitar," says Billie Joe Armstrong's guitar tech, Hans, about the Gibson Billie Joe Armstrong J-180 Acoustic Guitar, used during live Green Day performances.

J-180 is heavily used for live performances, especially 21st Century Breakdown tour. Billie Joe used this guitar to play "Macy's Day Parade", "Redundant", "Words I Might Have Ate, Good Riddance and Give Me Novacaine", and other stuff.

The Gibson Les Paul Junior 1956 Sunburst Electric Guitar is used by guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong of the world-renowned rock band Green Day. Billie Joe named this guitar "Floyd," which served as the inspiration for his signature Gibson model and remains his favorite guitar.

In an interview for Guitar Player he also notes that this guitar was used for recording "21st Century Breakdown".

I mainly played a ’56 Gibson Les Paul Junior, but I also had a Slash model Les Paul, a Jimmy Page model Les Paul, and my ’59 ’burst.

As can be seen in this photo, Billie Joe during the hella mega tour is using a Gibson Les Paul Junior in Satin White but modified with black stripes around it making it look like in the style of Eddie Van Halen’s guitar. This is not the same Les Paul Junior he used in 2004-2010 because that is in the rock n roll hall of fame.

This is one of Billie Joe Armstrong's main guitars on the Hella Mega Tour. It was a natural finish Les Paul Junior that Billie hadn't used much before. He had it repainted in this gold sparkle finish and now he plays it for the first songs of these gigs: American Idiot, Pollyanna, Holiday, Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, Know Your Enemy and a few more.

Billie Joe Armstrong used the Gibson B.B. King Lucille Semi-Hollow Guitar during a live performance at the Fox Theater and on tour for "21st Century Breakdown," as shown in the user-uploaded photo on Photobucket.

This guitar was used on 21st Century Breakdown, as Billie Joe says in this Guitar Player interview.

"I also got some great sounds with my ’52 Fender Esquire though a Divided by 13 combo—we used that amp a lot on this record."

In this trailer of the movie ("Heart Like A Hand Grenade")about the making of "American Idiot", we can see Billie Joe Armstrong playing some riffs on this guitar. He modified it a little bit: he removed one of the knobs and changed the original green tuning keys with another Gibson chrome tuning keys set.

In the YouTube video "Green Day - East Jesus Nowhere Live @ Kesselhaus" by MrGreenDayLive, Billie Joe Armstrong can be seen playing a Gibson Les Paul TV Junior Electric Guitar. Although it is not specified as a 1955 model, this guitar, finished in TV Yellow, was prominently used during the 21st Century Breakdown era and its accompanying tour.

In this photo is a replica of Billie's "Blue" Stratocaster named "Azul". It is covered in stickers. Billie use Fender Classic Player 50s Stratocaster for 21st Century Breakdown South American Tour, The guitar headstock was broken after being dropped during show in Brasil.

In the official music video for "21 Guns," Billie Joe Armstrong plays a Gibson J-180 Everly Brothers Signature guitar, identifiable by the absence of "BILLIE JOE" on the truss rod cover.

On the rack is a Les Paul Custom Shop Slash Signature which was used on American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown.

Fender Telecaster Deluxe (Duplicate) as his backup guitar during the "21st Century Breakdown" era. This guitar was played by Armstrong during performances of "Longview" and "Basket Case" at Pinkpop in 2010. The guitar's pickups were modified with a Seymour Duncan SH-4 and a P90. This Telecaster Deluxe is part of a pattern, as similar models were also used by Armstrong in the periods spanning 2000-2001 and 2012-2013.

Billie played on it in 21 guns music video.

As seen on this source, Billie Joe Armstrong is using a 1958 Fender Twin 5F8-4 Combo Amp. Billie says that he used this amp on 21st Century Breakdown. It's not known what songs he used it on.

Billie used this amp on practice sessions for Warning and on 21st Century Breakdown.

In the link interview he mentions the Divided by 13 FTR 37 head.

"What was your go-to guitar and amp recipe for the overdriven sounds on Revolution Radio?

It was a combination of different things. For starters, I often had my ’56 Les Paul Junior plugged into an old Park head that has been totally rebuilt. Another underlying thing on a lot of parts is a Rickenbacker 360—like the ones Peter Case and Peter Buck use—through a Divided By 13 head. [...]"

This amp was used on 21st Century Breakdown, Uno, Dos, Tre, and Rev Rad.

A Telefunken M-80 can be seen in the 21 Guns video.

Billie Joe Armstrong can be seen using the Telefunken ELA M 251 in the studio while recording vocals around of 2009-2010 (21st Centruty Breakdown Album).

38:17 a Danelectro Daddy O pedal is clearly visible behind Bilie Joe Armstrong. He used it for the recording of the American Idiot album.
