"He actually used the original guitar on the last album, but we keep it safely put away - we use copies Gibson makes for us that are awesome guitars in their own right," the tech said.
For a good year or so in the early days of GNR, Slash often used a Jackson Firebird. The guitar was black in finish, equipped with a Floyd Rose, two humbuckers, a 22-fret ebony fretboard with Jackson inlays, and featured a sticker modeled after Slash's lady tattoo with his nickname underneath the sticker. This guitar was used to record the rhythm parts for "Appetite for Destruction." Unsatisfied with the tones of the guitar for solos, he pawned it so he could fund some bad habits. It's currently whereabouts are unknown.

The amp had been modded by Tim Caswell, who basically used the amp's unused tremolo circuit, with its additional pre-amp valve, to produce more gain. Also added to the amp was a master volume control.
