Toro y Moi – Anything in Return

Chaz talks about mixing his album "Anything in Return" at Different Fur Studios. He was keen on not using too many software synths for the album, and said he made use of the studio's Korg MS2000.

The songs on Toro Y Moi's album "Anything in Return" were "...written with live performance in mind, augmented by a few tricks, such as sampling chords in the SP- 404SX and using its playback to stagger delivery on tracks including 'Rose Quartz.'"

Speaking about the recording process for Toro Y Moi's album "Anything in Return," Different Fur Studios owner Patrick Brown says the drums often went through an Empirical Labs EL8-X Distressor, Empirical Labs EL-7 FATSO Jr., and GML 8200 EQ, "...to fatten them up, make them hit harder, make the kick really snap, and to add a little bit of softness and harmonic on the top end so they didn't sound too brittle out of Reason."

One of the primary reverb units used on the recording of Toro Y Moi's "Anything in Return" album was the Lexicon PCM 42 Digital Delay Processor.

Lead sounds on Toro Y Moi's album "Anything in Return" were processed by running them through the ZVex Instant Lo-Fi Junky Modulation Pedal.

Chaz had recorded vocals in Reason for his album "Anything in Return," but when he went into the studio they were re-recorded for the most part using the Shure SM7B Vocal Mic.

Toro Y Moi's vocals for his "Anything in Return" album were recorded using a Shure SM7B mic, into an Avalon AD2022 preamp.

Post processing for Toro Y Moi's album "Anything in Return" was done in Pro Tools.
