About
Abbath is a Norwegian black metal band formed in 2015 by the iconic frontman Olve "Abbath" Eikemo after his departure from the legendary band Immortal. The group hails from Bergen, Norway, and has carved a niche within the subgenres of black metal, black 'n' roll, and Norwegian black metal, delivering a sound that is both ferocious and melodic. Abbath, known for his commanding stage presence and distinctive growl, leads the group as the vocalist and guitarist. The lineup has seen various talented musicians, including Mia Wallace (bass) and King ov Hell (bass), contributing to its evolving sound. Together, they channel the icy, raw energy of traditional black metal while infusing elements of rock 'n' roll to create a powerful, riff-driven musical experience.
How to Sound Like Abbath
Abbath's sound is characterized by its aggressive, yet melodic guitar riffs and a sonic landscape that is both raw and expansive. The use of high-gain amplifiers such as the Marshall JCM 900 4102 and Peavey 6505 contributes to their heavy, distorted tones, while the Boss MT-2 Metal Zone adds a layer of biting distortion, perfect for cutting through the mix. The thunderous bass lines played on instruments like the B.C. Rich Beast Bass anchor the band's sound, providing a relentless rhythm that complements Abbath's intricate guitar work. This blend of ferocity and melody is further enhanced by pounding drum patterns, creating a soundscape that is both chaotic and exhilarating, capturing the essence of black metal with a unique twist.
