About
All About Eve is a British band known for their fusion of ethereal wave, gothic rock, and darkwave, emerging from the vibrant '80s goth rock scene. The group was formed by Julianne Regan (vocals), a former journalist and bassist for Gene Loves Jezebel, who was encouraged by members of The Mission U.K. to start her own project. She was joined by Tim Bricheno (guitar), Andy Cousin (bass), and Mark Price (drums). Their music uniquely blends folk-rock influences with gothic undertones, creating a sound that is both atmospheric and introspective. Over the years, the band saw several lineup changes, with notable contributions from Marty Willson-Piper of The Church on guitar.
How to Sound Like All About Eve
All About Eve's sound is characterized by its lush, atmospheric guitar textures and mystical, folk-infused melodies. The use of jangly 12-string guitars, such as the Rickenbacker 360/12 12-String Hollowbody played by Marty Willson-Piper, adds a shimmering quality to their music. This is complemented by the ethereal reverb effects, like those from the Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail, enhancing the band's dreamlike soundscape. Their use of vintage, warm amplifiers, such as the Vox AC30, contributes to the rich, enveloping tone that defines their music, while the layered, melodic bass lines and dynamic drumming provide a grounded yet fluid backdrop to Regan's haunting vocals.
