About

Angel Corpse is a formidable force in the extreme metal scene known for their relentless blend of black and death metal. Formed in 1995 by Pete Helmkamp (bass, vocals) and Gene Palubicki (guitar), the band originated following the dissolution of Helmkamp's previous project, Order From Chaos. The early lineup was solidified with John Longstreth on drums, later incorporating Bill Taylor as rhythm guitarist. Over the years, Angel Corpse has undergone various lineup changes but remained anchored in Tampa, Florida, a city renowned for its death metal heritage. Their music is characterized by an unyielding intensity that fuses the brutality of death metal with the raw aggression of black metal.

How to Sound Like Angel Corpse

Angel Corpse's sound is a sonic assault defined by aggressive, high-tempo riffs and ferocious drumming, creating a chaotic yet precise auditory experience. To capture their intense and gritty sound, musicians should focus on achieving sharp, distorted guitar tones that cut through the mix, often utilizing high-gain amplifiers. The use of blast beats and rapid double bass drumming provides a relentless rhythmic drive, while the bass guitar often follows the guitars, reinforcing the heaviness of their compositions. Vocals are typically delivered with a harsh, guttural style, adding to the visceral impact of their music. Overall, the production leans towards a raw and unrefined edge, reflecting the band's commitment to maintaining the primal energy of their live performances.
