About
White Lion is a rock band that emerged from the vibrant glam metal scene of the 1980s. Formed in New York City in 1983, the group was spearheaded by Danish vocalist Mike Tramp and American guitarist Vito Bratta. Known for their melodic rock sound infused with elements of hard rock and glam rock, White Lion solidified their lineup with James LoMenzo (bass) and Greg D'Angelo (drums), creating a dynamic rhythm section that helped propel their music to greater heights. The band gained widespread recognition with their album Pride, which featured hits like "Wait" and the acoustic ballad "When the Children Cry," securing their place in the pantheon of classic rock acts.
How to Sound Like White Lion
White Lion's sound is characterized by melodic, high-energy guitar riffs and soaring vocals, creating an engaging blend of aggression and harmony. The guitar work of Vito Bratta is particularly notable for its clean yet powerful tones, often achieved through the use of an ESP Stratocaster Copy and the Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer, which adds a distinctive overdrive to his solos. Bratta's use of the Marshall DSL100H amplifier further enhances the band's rich, full-bodied sound, perfectly complementing Tramp's robust vocal delivery. White Lion’s music is an interplay of rhythmic drive and melodic hooks, making it essential for musicians looking to capture their essence to focus on balancing clarity with a rock-driven edge.
