About
Blackfoot is a dynamic Southern rock band with roots in Jacksonville, Florida. The group was formed by Rickey Medlocke (vocals, guitar), who is acknowledged for his Native American heritage, alongside Jakson Spires (drums, vocals), Greg T. Walker (bass, vocals), and Charlie Hargrett (lead guitar). Blackfoot's music is a vibrant fusion of rock, blues rock, country rock, and hard rock, earning them a reputation for their energetic and raw sound that captures the essence of classic Southern rock. Their notable success came with the album Strikes and singles like "Train, Train" and "Highway Song", marking their place among contemporaries like Lynyrd Skynyrd.
How to Sound Like Blackfoot
Blackfoot's sound is characterized by its aggressive, blues-infused rock that combines the gritty edge of hard rock with the storytelling spirit of Southern rock. Their music features powerful, overdriven guitar tones, often achieved with Gibson guitars, such as the Gibson Explorer and Gibson Les Paul Custom. These instruments, when paired with the robust output of Wizard Vintage Classic 100W and Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier amplifiers, create a powerful and resonant sound. The use of Dunlop Cry Baby Wah pedals adds a distinctive wah effect, contributing to the band's dynamic and expressive guitar work. This combination of gear and style results in a sound that is both raw and polished, with a driving rhythmic foundation that amplifies their storytelling prowess through music.
