Dead & Company is an American rock supergroup that emerged in 2015, blending the legacy of the Grateful Dead with fresh energy from new members. The group features Bob Weir (guitar, vocals), Mickey Hart (drums), and Bill Kreutzmann (drums) from the original Grateful Dead lineup, alongside John Mayer (guitar, vocals), Oteil Burbridge (bass), and Jeff Chimenti (keyboards). Their music encompasses genres like rock, jam band, Americana, and folk, continuing the Grateful Dead's tradition of immersive live performances and extended improvisational jams.
How to Sound Like Dead & Company
Dead & Company’s sound is a seamless fusion of vintage rock warmth and dynamic live spontaneity. The interplay between John Mayer's expressive guitar work and Bob Weir's rhythmic complexity creates a rich tapestry of sound. Mayer's use of the Dumble Overdrive Special Amp Head contributes to a tone that is both smooth and articulate, capable of cutting through the mix with clarity. The group's sonic character is further defined by a blend of clean and slightly overdriven textures, often accentuated by effects like the Ibanez TS10 Tube Screamer Classic for added grit. This combination, along with the rhythmic foundation provided by Hart and Kreutzmann, results in a sound that is expansive, melodic, and deeply rooted in the jam band ethos.
