Trey Anastasio's Gear
"The Seymour Duncan SH-1s ... are the same pickups in Trey's guitars" - from Paul Languedoc, who made Trey's guitars. "I've tried other pickups in my guitars and I always come back to the Duncan."
Trey Anastasio plays a Languedoc guitar, which he shows off in this video at (0:10). "It's a long scale length...the length from the nut to the bridge is the same as a Strat," Anastasio said. "I wanted it to have the bite of a Strat and the kindof meat of a hollowbody...so the body is completely hollow and braced like a violin...so it's completely hand carved and hollow. It's a beautiful hand crafted instrument." The guitar can switch between a humbucker and single-coil sound, according to the Phish guitarist.
Trey Anastasio uses the Ross Compressor to "squash" his Ibanez tube screamers, the Phish guitarist says in this video at (3:30). His current pedal was a gift from fans who missed Trey's guitar tone from earlier Phish days.
Anastasio has been using two tube screamers "since the early days" according to the Phish guitarist in this video at (3:05). One is set on full scream for sustain and one on light distortion, sometimes both at once. He uses them when he's not using his digital effects.
Trey Anastasio has been using this amp since he bought it in the mid-80s, in part because he believes "being familiar with your gear is more important than having really good gear," he said in this video at (4:10).
Anastasio has been using an Alesis Microverb since the mid-80's. "It's like a backwards delay," the guitarist said at (6:00). "It's a delay, but it's flipped around backwards, so it comes toward you," he said.
Anastasio also plays through a Univox Univibe. "The Univibe, of course is made famous by Jimi Hendrix," the Phish guitarist said at (6:30). "I got it specifically because I spent 8 million hours listening to Band of Gypsies when I was growing up."
Trey Anastasio uses an original Ibanez DM2000, "that was one of the first digital delays ever made," Anastasio said at (4:40).
In this tweet, Trey is seen using a Fender EOB on-stage.
Here he is playing a Jaguar, in a video about his album "Traveler"
Trey Anastasio uses a Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb, as documented by Scott Harris on Strangedesign. The amp features a modified design with a 12AT7 tube replacing the standard 12AX7, and the "Vibrato" circuit has been reconfigured into a "midrange boost" with an additional pot and knob installed on the front panel. Additionally, the stock Utah 12" speaker has been swapped for a Celestion Blue Alnico 12".
Anastasio uses a TC electronics Nova Repeater, as seen in this video at (6:14). According to the Phish guitarist, he got it, "just for a tiny little echo...and then when we were in the Storage Jam, I finally started fooling around with it, because we were fooling around inside that storage box, I think it kind of re-ignited everyone to open their minds a little," he said.
"We did some Way Huge SUPA PUSS mods for Trey in 2015, as the BLEND on them comes up too fast, he just wanted a little delay so we found a mod to make it easier to dial in."
Trey most frequently uses the pitch bender, which allows the user to bend pitches using the expression pedal to various degrees up or down. Trey almost always uses this feature in its middle position, which is 2 half steps down. So by depressing the expression pedal, the guitar tone sweeps down two half steps, eg, from an Bb to an Ab. Then as your sweep the pedal back up, the tone returns to the original note. In early 3.0, Trey was experimenting with this sound, dubbed the “Whale,”
He uses Key 9 live on stage.
You can see the Bogner Shiva behind Trey's pedal setup.
At 3:10 the Cry Baby can be seen next to the two Tube Screamers. He mentions that 'it's off most of the time'.
Trey Anastasio utilizes the Trek II UC-1A pedal preamp to control Leslie speakers, as detailed on the Trekii website.
Trey Anastasio uses the Analog Man King of Tone Overdrive pedal, as noted on Analog Man's Phish page, which details his pedal board setup.
From website: "Trey Anastasio from Phish got a pair of Bicomps before his solo tour and the recording of their album in late 2002. He has been and is still using two of our Silver mod TS9/808 pedals in his live rigs with all the bands and combinations he plays with."
AnalogMan Bi-Comprossor and the Ross Compressor is what seems to be in use off and on for him over the years.

The pedal includes a JRC inline chip modification, which was installed by Sid, replacing the original SUPER mod. Sid's pedal board also features the King Of Tone and Sunface NKT pedals.
In this picture from A Trey Trio(plus one) show in Charlottsville, you can see the Komet amp in the back. This is a great amp that was designed by Ken Fischer before his unfortunate passing. Trey loves this amp and has been playin live with it for under a year. In this video he talkes in detail about his amps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzpkJGxz38M

"I’ve been using a ribbon mic on Trey’s guitar since 2009 and I love it, but I wanted to improve the sonic quality, so we bought a guitaRF. What a difference it made. The guitar came into focus, had more punch and a level of isolation was achieved that had been missing due to the nature of a ribbon. Definitely a tool worth having!"
