About
DIIV is an American indie rock band formed in Brooklyn, New York, known for their eclectic blend of shoegaze, dream pop, and neo-psychedelia. Emerging in 2011, the group was spearheaded by Zachary Cole Smith (vocals, guitar), with a lineup that includes Andrew Bailey (guitar), Colin Caulfield (bass, keyboards), and Ben Newman (drums). DIIV's music draws from a wide array of influences, including post-punk and krautrock, creating a sound that is both nostalgic and forward-thinking.
How to Sound Like DIIV
DIIV's sonic character is defined by lush, reverberant guitar textures and a dreamy, immersive atmosphere. Their sound often features intertwining melodies and rhythmic complexity, with guitars that shimmer and pulse through layers of atmospheric effects. Key to their ethereal sound are Fender and Epiphone guitars, which, when paired with pedals like the Behringer DD400 Digital Delay and Eventide Space Reverb, create expansive soundscapes. The Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus amplifier's clean, bright tone further enhances the band's signature dreamlike quality, allowing their music to float and envelop the listener in a wash of sound.
