General Public is a British New Wave band that emerged in the early 1980s, formed by the former members of the English Beat, Dave Wakeling (vocals) and Ranking Roger (vocals, toaster). They were joined by Mickey Billingham (keyboards) from Dexy's Midnight Runners, Horace Panter (bass) from the Specials, and a drummer known as Stoker. Their music seamlessly blends pop elements with classic Motown soul influences, crafting catchy yet sophisticated tracks. General Public is best remembered for hits like "Tenderness," which encapsulates their vibrant and melodic New Wave essence.
