About
Hurricane No. 1 is a British rock band rooted in the dynamic sounds of Britpop and Madchester, with elements of Oxford indie. Originating in the late 1990s, the group was initially formed by former Ride guitarist Andy Bell, along with Alex Lowe (vocals, guitar), Will Pepper (bass), and Gareth Farmer (drums). Known for their blend of classic rock influences and modern indie sensibilities, Hurricane No. 1 quickly made a mark in the music scene with their self-titled debut album and standout tracks like "Step into My World." Although the lineup has evolved over the years, with Bell departing to join Oasis, Lowe has remained a constant force, leading various incarnations of the band.
How to Sound Like Hurricane No. 1
Hurricane No. 1's sound is characterized by its bold, guitar-driven rock infused with an anthemic and nostalgic flair. The combination of lush, melodic guitar lines and gritty distortion captures the essence of their Britpop roots while also embracing a raw rock energy. A staple of their sound, the Gibson Les Paul Custom delivers robust, powerful tones, further enriched by the use of effects like the Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer for added warmth and overdrive. The band's music often features layered textures, achieved through the use of 12-string guitars, such as the Rickenbacker 330-12, creating a shimmering, full-bodied sound that resonates with the vibrant energy of the Britpop era.
