Karate is an influential band that emerged from the vibrant Boston music scene in 1993, known for their intricate blend of emo, post-hardcore, indie rock, post-rock, math rock, slowcore, and emo punk. The original lineup featured Geoff Farina (guitar, vocals), Eamonn Vitt (bass, later transitioning to guitar), and Gavin McCarthy (drums). In 1995, Jeff Goddard joined, taking over bass duties as Vitt moved to guitar before eventually leaving the band.
