About
Moistboyz is a provocative and irreverent duo formed as an offshoot of the alternative rock band Ween. Consisting of Mickey Moist (a.k.a. Dean Ween, or Mickey Melchiondo) on guitar and DJ/multi-instrumentalist duties, and Dickie Moist on vocals, the group is known for their audacious blend of rap-metal and punk rock. Emerging in the early '90s, Moistboyz carved a niche with their raw, unfiltered expression, often combining controversial themes with a satirical edge, anchored by the dynamic musicality of Dean Ween.
How to Sound Like Moistboyz
Moistboyz's sound is characterized by its aggressive and gritty sonic palette, which veers sharply from their Ween roots. The music is both raw and intense, driven by distorted guitar riffs and pounding rhythms that create an unvarnished auditory assault. Dean Ween’s use of the Gibson Les Paul Standard and Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier Trem-O-Verb Head amplifiers contributes to their heavy, saturated tone. The sound is further enriched with effects like the Dunlop Cry Baby GCB-95 wah pedal, adding a snarling edge to the guitars. This combination results in a fierce and confrontational musical experience, fitting their bold, unapologetic lyrical content.
