About
Palm is an innovative musical group that hails from Philadelphia, known for their intricate blend of noise rock, math rock, garage psych, and Philly indie. The band is composed of Eve Alpert (guitar, vocals), Kasra Kurt (guitar, vocals), Gerasimos Livitsanos (bass), and Hugo Stanley (drums). Formed during their teenage years, Eve and Kasra, who are high school sweethearts, started the band along with their friends, creating a unique sound that has evolved over the years. Palm is celebrated for their live performances that showcase an uncanny synchronicity and spontaneous energy, drawing inspiration from various genres including Japanese pop, dub, and footwork.
How to Sound Like Palm
Palm’s sonic character is defined by its discordant yet mesmerizing soundscapes, skillfully merging the raw energy of live performances with elements of electronic music. Their music often features jagged guitar riffs reminiscent of influences like Sonic Youth and Captain Beefheart, layered with complex rhythms and dynamic shifts. A key component of their sound is the use of equipment like the Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus, which provides crisp and clean guitar tones that contrast with their aggressive, noisy undertones. The Boss DD-7 Digital Delay helps create the intricate, overlapping textures that are a hallmark of their style. Palm’s music thrives on its ability to capture a sense of unpredictability and experimental spirit, making their sound both challenging and exhilarating for listeners and musicians alike.
