About
Primer 55 is an American band hailing from Memphis, Tennessee, known for their fusion of alternative metal, industrial metal, rap metal, rap rock, and nu metal. Formed in 1997, the group was co-founded by Bobby Burns (guitar) and J-Sin (vocals), combining heavy metal riffs with hip-hop elements. The original lineup also included Mike "Jr." Christopher (bass) and Josh McLane (drums), who was later replaced by John Kamoosi. Primer 55 quickly gained traction with their energetic live performances, leading to the release of their debut album and later a major label deal with Island Def Jam.
How to Sound Like Primer 55
Primer 55's sound is characterized by aggressive, riff-driven guitar work and rhythmic vocal delivery, creating a dynamic blend of metal and hip-hop. Their music often features heavily distorted guitar tones and percussive rhythms, contributing to a gritty, high-energy vibe. Burns's guitar setup, including his use of ESP Standard Eclipse and ESP E-II Viper Electric Guitar, delivers the powerful, punchy sound essential to the band's style. The rhythm section, anchored by tight, hard-hitting bass lines and forceful drumming, supports the band's intense and rebellious sonic character, while the vocal interplay adds a raw, confrontational edge. This fusion of styles makes Primer 55 a staple in the world of nu metal and rap rock.
