About
Prophets of Rage is a politically charged supergroup formed in 2016, uniting members from influential bands such as Rage Against the Machine, Public Enemy, and Cypress Hill. The group consists of Tom Morello (guitar), Tim Commerford (bass, backing vocals), Brad Wilk (drums) from Rage Against the Machine; Chuck D (vocals), DJ Lord (turntables, backing vocals) from Public Enemy; and B-Real (vocals) from Cypress Hill. Known for their fusion of political hip hop, rap metal, and rap rock, Prophets of Rage channel their music as a tool for social commentary, blending the raw energy and lyrical activism of their individual backgrounds into a powerful, united front.
How to Sound Like Prophets of Rage
Prophets of Rage's sound is characterized by an aggressive, dynamic blend of heavy guitar riffs and rhythmic grooves, underscored by socially conscious lyrics. Tom Morello's guitar work, featuring intricate solos and innovative effects, is a key component of their sound, often employing tools like the Custom "Arm The Homeless" Electric Guitar and the MXR M104 Distortion+ to create a gritty, ferocious tone. Tim Commerford's bass lines, delivered through the Music Man Stingray, provide a punchy, driving force that complements the sharp, percussive attack of Brad Wilk's drumming. The interplay of turntables and vocal layers adds an additional layer of texture, merging rock's raw power with hip hop's rhythmic complexity to craft a sound that is both rebellious and anthemic.
