Emerging from the vibrant 1960s Bay Area music scene, the group originally consisted of John Cipollina (guitar), Gary Duncan (guitar, vocals), David Freiberg (bass, vocals), Greg Elmore (drums), and Jim Murray (vocals, guitar). The band's lineup evolved over time, with notable additions like pianist Nicky Hopkins and the return of founding member Dino Valente.
