About
Ripping Corpse was an influential American death metal band formed in 1987 in Red Bank, New Jersey. The group was known for its aggressive blend of thrash, death, and speed metal, coupled with horror-themed lyrics and high-speed tempos. The lineup consisted of Scott Ruth (vocals), Erik Rutan (guitar), Brandon Thomas (drums), and Dave Bizzigotti (bass), who was later replaced by Scott Hornick. Though not a major commercial success, they cultivated a cult following with their potent sound, most notably on their 1991 album Dreaming with the Dead. Ripping Corpse's contributions to the metal scene have been lasting, with members going on to join other notable bands like Morbid Angel and Hate Eternal.
How to Sound Like Ripping Corpse
Ripping Corpse's sound is characterized by its raw, aggressive intensity and intricate guitar work. Their music often features dirty, overdriven guitar tones that cut through with precision, driven by the likes of an Ibanez Universe UV7 and a B.C. Rich Erik Rutan Custom 7-string Iron Bird. Amplifiers such as the Marshall JCM800 2203 provide the necessary power and grit, while the Maxon OD808X Extreme Overdrive enhances their sonic aggression. The combination of these elements creates a chaotic yet controlled sound that is both relentless and technically proficient, making their music a staple for fans of extreme metal genres.
