Nihilist was a groundbreaking Swedish death metal band that laid the foundation for what would later become the renowned group Entombed. Formed in the late 1980s, the band featured core members Alex Hellid (guitar) and Nicke Andersson (drums), with L.G. Petrov (vocals) and Uffe Cederlund (guitar) joining intermittently. Nihilist was instrumental in shaping the Swedish death metal and grindcore scenes, capturing the raw energy and ferocity of the genre through their influential demo tapes.

Nihilist's sound was an aggressive blend of dark, heavy riffs and relentless drumming, characterized by its gritty and raw production. The guitar tones were both crushing and melodic, achieved through the use of Gibson Flying V guitars and the iconic Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal pedal, which provided the distinctive "buzzsaw" distortion that became synonymous with Swedish death metal. Amplified through powerful rigs like the Marshall JCM800 2203ZW, their music was marked by a dense, overdriven sound that was both chaotic and cohesive. The relentless tempos and visceral soundscapes created by Nicke Andersson's drumming, often utilizing a Tama Starclassic (Maple) kit, underscored the band's intense and uncompromising style.
