About

The Frogs are an American musical duo known for their provocative and humorous approach to anti-folk and outsider music. Originating from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the group was formed in 1980 by brothers Jimmy Flemion (guitar, vocals, keyboards) and Dennis Flemion (percussion, keyboards). While they occasionally collaborated with other musicians, the Flemion brothers remained the creative core of the band throughout their career. The Frogs gained a cult following with their eccentric performances and outlandish lyrics that addressed controversial themes with absurdity and wit. Despite their polarizing nature, they attracted the attention of influential alternative rock figures, including Kurt Cobain and Billy Corgan.

How to Sound Like The Frogs

The Frogs' sound is a blend of lo-fi aesthetics and eclectic theatricality, characterized by its raw and unpolished edge. Their music often embraces a dirty, garage-like quality, accentuated by distorted guitar tones that channel the irreverent spirit of their lyrics. Utilizing gear like the Pro Co The Rat distortion pedal, the Flemions achieved a gritty sonic character that complemented their satirical narratives. The use of keyboards added an unpredictable layer to their music, further enhancing its offbeat charm. This chaotic yet compelling mix of sounds and styles allowed The Frogs to create a unique auditory experience that both challenged and entertained listeners.
